About a year ago the population fell off, but never quite reached empty- ION COUHTY Under the new emergency tax law rearrangement of assessments. Union county' state assessed valuation is nearly $6,000,000 above the original assessment about $7,000,000, making a total assessable valuation in Union county of $12,000,000. This sharp In- rease will mean that Union county will add just $1000 to the apportion ment paid Into the state coffers. A Salem dispatch throws Interesting Mght on the tax situation In this state: The state board of equalization to day completed Its equalisation of the assessments of the several counties on the rolls of 1908 and apportioned the state taxes among the several counties n the basis of valuations as equalized. This new apportionment has been made under the emergency tax law, known as house bill 190. In the equalisation of assessments. Baker county's valuations were Increased $3, 000,000, Benton $5,000,000, Clackamas 16.000,000, Lane $7,000,000, Lane' $7,- 100,000, Linn $7,000,000. Marlon over S3, 000, 000, Polk $6,000,000, Union nearly $6,000,000, Wasco $5,000,000, Washington $4,000,000. Yamhill, $8,- 100,000. The principal reductions In valua tions are, Columbia $9,000,1)00, Coos SEEK HOME EOR (ID A mysterious tiny baby girl, born night before last, of good parentage, a heuithy baby, and a good disposition, is to be given Into the care of some good family to be raised properly and Is now at the home of Dr. T. M. Hen derson, wrievp It will be kept until a good home can be found for the child, relates the Pendleton East Ore goiiian. The reason for giving the child away is that the parents don't want the chilil. Beyond this Dr. Henderson refuses U stale any of the particulars. While out on one of bin professional visits the child was born and the mother asked the doctor to take the baby and find a home for It. This the doctor is attempting to do and if no suitable place can be found the doctor and his wife will keep it them selves. The baby is a fine, healthy child and the doctor will vouch for Us parentage, but beyond this he refuses to make any statement. A number of caUers have ben to see the child and application" 'rive been made for the baby, but I' I. as not been given to any one so far. ORiENTAL VALUATION mm. MORE Bi DRkIT """" . sparger, W. P. Jack son nearly $9,000,000, Multnomah $46,00.000, Tillamook $5,000,000. These changes In assessment, given in round numbers, are believed to bring the property of the several coun ties to a uniform rate . of valuation. As compared with the amount .re quired of them by the January appor tionment, the following counties will be required' to pay more by the new apportionment; the amounts being In round numbers: Baker $1400, Clatsop $4000, Columbia $1500, Curry $1000. Douglas $2000, Hood River $3000. Klamath $5500, Lincoln $1100, Mor row $1500, Multnomah -$7000. Sher man $1000, Tillamook $3000, Umatilla $3000, Union $1000, Wallowa $1000. Wasco $2700.
