DUNN, Exulted Ruler. G. E. McCULLY. Recording Sec. Portland, Feb. 1. (Special corres pondence.) As an evidence that Portland people are more and more interested In the advancement of Ore gin, the First National Rank and Ladd I & T'.'Ai'P "rii.v ea. h 'r.i-tified the Ore gon Development league that their subscriptions for the year 190J would be $200 per month itiKtead of 1100, as In former years. This same sum Is nubscribed by the Portland Railway. Light & Power company, while the United States National Bank has ad vanced from $50 to $100 per month. These are larger ubeription than are made by the financial and business in terests of any other city In the United States. An enormous amount of attention has been excited by the invitation to "hlcago. extended through the ways and means committee of the Chicago Association of Commer'-e, to send t50 Chicago school boys and girls for a two months' trip through the western states. The commercial bodies if the whole west are Joining with the Port land Commercial club to insure ac ceptance of the invitation. Hundreds of business men who do business with '"hicago firms are asking those firms to co-operate with H. A. Wheeler, chairman of the ways and means com mltttep, 77 Jackson Boulevard, t'hl eago, in bringing this about. If any reader of this paper can help the cause by wiiting a letter, he is ui'-'ed to lo so. DENT came to the Grande Ronde Val ley some months ago to give the people of this community the advant age of reliable dental work at reason-: able prices and I have found that this determination has been appreciated. It is due every man that he get a reasonable recompense for his work : and i base my practice on thai prin-: ciple. My patrons shall receive the I same consideration that I should ex-: pect if I had occasion to employ a i Dentist. Very Respectfully, Twcntv-one hundred und ninety V pounds of publicity were forwarded to the iist by the Portland 'oinnierii.il eiuh last week. This whs in ad lit'op to the ?ix tons that went to weeks earlier. The printers will f-m be busy in turning out one rniiil n lenf- e; advertising the one-way colonist rates to Oregon points, and these leaf lets w ill go out through the bo s und y;irls attending school, the preachers and churches, the banks, business houses, factories. !nt-U, and the homes of Portland, whose example lv this work should be followed by ever community In Oregon. People can buy their tickets to almost every rail IH'ieit in the state just as cheaply as they can to Portland, but if they buy them only to Portland they will have to pay local tales from this city to their final destination. Portland and Vancouver. Washing ton, are getting more and more chum my all the time, and there has been no occasion when the people of the two cities enjoyed themselves more heartily than at the launching of the new ferry boat "City of Vancouver" from the St. Johns Shipbuilding com pany's yards at St. Johns, last Satur day ufternoon. This is a home built boat and for that reason the best. More than I'OO citizens of Spokane jritoi toe inlatnl empire will reacn Portland Sattirtbsy. February S. en route to California. The party is un der the auspices of the Spokane Cham ber of Commerce. Immediately upon their arrival the Portland Commer cial club will entertain the guests on a trolley ride over the city, and at a reception ami dinner at night. J.E. STEVENSON, D. D. S.
