"A Quiet Night s Rest" is the title of a comedy sketch to be put on to n ght at the Scenic by the whirlwind comedian. Biff and Bang. The night's rest is anything but quiet, how evlr. This is unquestionably the best sketch that the popular team has at tempted dulrng their engagement in La Grande., In addition to the special Biff and Bang features, and the new films, there will also be something sensational by the SmHetta Statew. who do the triple somerasult through a doughnut. . r The Partlme. The Pastime showed to three full houses again last evening. The ( 1 it fords continue to mystify the publk with their clever escapes. The gas pipe cage will be ready this even ng and there Is considerable speculation as to the ability of the Cliffords to escape. The pictures are much bet ter than average, and the subjects are well selected. Tonight the Clifford will escape again from the Fair store trunks and will also do his mind reading acts. The Cliffords will not remain here always and La Grande people should hot fail to see them while the opportunity offers. mis' PRACTICAL FACILITIES PIU:SIIEXT IIOMAX A XI) HIS SALKM I'MVKKSITV. Willamette I'lilverslty an Institution With lVw KqualH In Xortlmext .Stales. Picture a man, with the ercetness jf au Imliuii, tiie oiiiue ui ri,tuu boy, the handshake of a vote-better, the brain of an educator of the school of today, ind there Is formed a men tal sketch of Fletcher Homnn, presi dent of Willamette university at Sa lem, who whs in the city hint evening for a short time en route to his du ties at the state's capital. Fletcher Uoman Is a practical man of the min ,te u competent personage to heud :he rapidly growing school of learn ing known as Willamette university. To t:ie untaught ear "Willamette" , Olive s an Impression of a school v.iu re Methodism is taught, but where practical collefclate courses are In the background. Such, by nil means, Is not the case. La Grande has especial interest in (hut school, for there It Is that A. E. Eaton of Union, has erected a $5(1.000 hall. The university is conducted on a . practical basis. The entrance re quirements arc :: broad as for any school In the land, Its university courses us long as the longest, and In many cases as broad us the broad est on the Pacific slope. Its law- school has an advantage few institu tions can claim. It has easy access to the supreme court library, one that Is unexcelled In the Pacific northwest. Supreme court Judges deliver frequent lectures to the students. Its college of medicine has the state Insane asy lum, the penitentiary, and the deaf and dumb school within a stones throw of the campus, where advance anil practical studies can be carried on. The theological department I but one college of the university, and It Is up to the high standard of the rest. The college of music has one ot the finest men In musical and classical lines In the northwest at its head. The endowments to the school have made It possible to secure and retain the best faculty of any denominational school of the Pacific coast. The man who last week was Inaug urated president of the Institution comes from Simpson college in Iowa, where he was vice-president. 3I!-'-twentieth centurv education was ac quired In some of the best colleges and universities or trie miume wesi. With so many salient points In fa vor of the school, it Is no wonder that the Institution grows, for he admin isters the affairs of the place of learning with the same dellberateness and vim that he used to score touch downs on the gridiron and add up the baseball scores for his alma mater. i FOR SALE 700 tamarack posts, 10c, In La Grande.
