To consider the first part of the statement quoted to the effect that "Osteopathy is a fad." will swm for a moment a digression from our sub ject of prophecy. Yet one cannot look surely Into the future without consid ering this point.' All fads rest upon a certain modi cum of truth exaggerated by the en thusiasm of the beneficiaries of that partial truth. If we take an Individ ual who has been suffering from some chronic ailment that defied the medi cal agencies of other methods and re store that .body to normal ease and health, we must expect and pardon a slight exaggeration due to enthusiasm for the newly discovered agent of re- covery. No wonder then minds un- trained in the sciences pertaining to health and disease often expressed lmpotently and even ludicrously the principles through which health was restored. And, since the practitioner ! of ten profited financially by this en- thusiasm and exaggeration!, wo have an explanation of the fact that even tne practitioners of osteopathy- failed t0 gve the pubiC a correct and ade- quate exposition of the underlying principles of his profession. It may 'even be admitted without prejudice that in the development of a new system of scientific truth results are aUalne(j Dy the practitioner were of- ten WFongiy attributed to some Im- poesibie factor. Yet to say that all these sources of error exaggerated th truth of osteopathy Into a fad Is far from tne marl M Set tofln.v by the J amount of actual good accomplished. iwri.-H-vT--'? arts" 'a f-; v p- ' ..V I J , I LJ AN ABSTRACT 'of that prospective real es- " i r a tate purchase is an absolute R ;f h ;d .buying a defective title, for an abstract from us will give you a complete a:d guaranteed accurate history of the prop- erty. Pff CD) O) E L-E-RaY by these principles. f , The truth underlying osteopathy Is , wo-fold: First, It may be stated that'! the body manufactures Its own client , Icals and compounds necessary for , perfect function; second, that the best ' possible condition of the body for the 1 accomplishment of this production Is a perfect adjustment of its mechanical parts. Then osteopathic therapy looks first to the adjustment of the mechan ical conditions of the body, 1 after which one expects and attains a per fect chemical condition. Recognizing the difficulty of mas tering fully the mechanical relations of the body when considered In the light of their possible interference with chemical function, every school teaching osteopathy today demands of Its students more actual work than Is required by the medical schools represented by the American Medlcnl association. We give today a total of 30 months as compared with the re quirements of 28 months in medlr.nl schools. In actual hours spent undor the supervision and instruction of our professors we require more of our stu dents than is required by any other profession on earth. Surely the truth of osteopathy mutt be too broad and too deep to be th basis of a mere fad if to master this truth requires such Instruction and such training for Its attainment! Dr. Meachar in Herald of Osteopathy. j i . DADDFI.C UHIULtJ CLOSE EARLY Many a man wears a shaggy beard these days becauue he hasn't quite mastered the problem of reaching the barber shops of the city before 6 o'clock each evening und next Satur day night there will be many knock ing futllely at the emporiums of Mil'"' ir'fll to Ki" admittance after 10 o'clock. Last Monday eve ning all barber shops put into effect the earlier closing rule, making It somewhat Inconvenient for clerks who are busy at their places of employ ment until 6 o'clock. To the clerks anil merchants who are confined to their own establishments until 6 o'clock, the curly closing Is disagree able, but to the others who can visit the shops at any time, it Is but a matter of acquainting themselves with the customs of tbe day.
