It may also help from the fact that unless jnolsfure comes pretty soon, we will need water next year more than some may think for at this' time. Here It Is nearly the middle of Din-ember, with .dusty road In the valley. With a flint-flaM irrigation system such as Is practical In Grande Rondo valley, the farmers need never worry about pre cipitation. There Is always sufficient now in the mountains to keep the reservoir full to overflowing. ; (- ' : Opposition to the use of Christmas trees Is extant, because annually mil lions of young trees are destroyed that would later become valuable for furl and lumber. We In the mountain re gions, possibly do not appreciate this Joss as they do in the far east, whose forests have been cut. , . i ' , " Do not Overlook the school meeting Saturday. Be there and vote a tax sufficient to insure another high achool building. The same tax that was voted last year we have been In formed will be sufficient. The color line Is being sharply drawn by some In New York City. White eggs are bringing 52 cents per dozen, while the colored ones only bring 35 cents. How did you like the president's message? 'He still favors postal sav ings banks. Bo do the people gener ally. -e No excuse for Grande Rondeltes to go south to escape the severe rigors of winter so far. INTERVIEW OVERDRAWN Washington, D. C, Dec. 9. -It has tranitnlred todav that some errors crept Into the reports sent to Oregon yesterday regarding the Fulton inter view with Prcsideui Roosevelt. Pres ident Roosevelt merely asked that ,jroof of fruud be brought If any h.-d been committed in thu Oregon son torlul prlmury election. All Chamberlain would say today was: "I have been treated with such fine courtipy here 'by men of nil par ties, that I must refrain from drwij ging In politics at this time." Mr. Tnft U Speak. New York. Dec. 9. It Is announced that Mrs. Tnft will attend the conven tion of the National Civic Federation lit New York next Monday nnd Tues day and will deliver an address at the meeting of the woman's department. President-elect Taft will deliver Dublin. Dec. 9. Wholesale frauls In the distribution of old age pensions In Ireland has caused such a scandal that no further pension will be paid until safeguards are placed on the sys tem. It was supposed that only 152,000 persons over 10 years of age were en titled to weekly pension of five shil lings, but the records show that 193, 000 applied for money. Hundreds of additional demands are coming. Evi dence of fraud havo been found. Mistreat and Rob Woman. San Vranclsco, Dec. 9. Bleeding from an ugly wound on her head, her hands bound behind and a cloth over he mouth, 'Mrs. Millie Harris stag tered her house, attacked her and bound her legs. She managed tc lease herself. The burglars carried away a number of valuable furs. NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION. Department of the Interior, U. S. Land Office, at La Grande, Or November 3, 1908.
