Mr. Stokes argued that one of the things to avoid waif the idea that bigness is essential to the success of the college. This Idea, he claimed, Is the bane of American life. - i High standards of education and character should be ' sought. Mr. Stokes argued that the establishment of a great college would not be antag onistic to the state Institutions In this section. He said that such a college as was planned would greatly influence education. ; Walla Waila citizens for the first time this morning saw the plans for the new Whitman, a stereoptlcon being used to prject them on a large screen In the chapel. The plans showed up vrv rlemiv and the location of the various buildings In relation to those now in existence was easily seen.' E. T. Lawrence, a Portland architect, who drew the plans, explained them. The Educational congress will end this evening with an Immense banquet to be served in the Whitman gymna sium to BOO people in honor of Dr. D. K. Pearsons of Chicago, who "is ex pected to make : an important - an nouncement regarding his future plans toward Whitman at this gathering. Addresses will be made by other prom inent visitors. The banquet will be served by 45 girls and the'same num ber of young men from Whitman col lege. . North Powder Shipments. One hundred and four carloads of grain and hay were shipped from North Powder in October, which is an Increase over the same month' in last year.' There was a marked Increase in cuttle and horses but the shipment of sheep were greatly decreased on account of the lack of dipping facili ties. Powder Valley sheepmen are now driving to Baker City to dip and are shipping from this point.
