The Instructive features of the convention should be heard by as many as' possible. Special stress is al ways' given the invitation. , of , non club women, and the same thing ir true in La Grande this time. ; , What Uie Federation Dora. Non-club women are oftentimes un aware of the scope of the work done ty -' the ' Oregon , federated 4 clubSi . A most exhaustive yet concentrated re view of what the club federation does, Is told, by the present Incumbent of the president's office, who will be in La Grande next week, - and who in Boston last June made the following report from Oregon to the ninth bien nial convention of the general federa tion of women's' club: , . ' . (Mrs. Sarah A.' Evans, of Portland.) Madam President and.. Members ' of the Convention: . ... The Oregon federation numbers 40 clubs with an Individual membership of aboui't 1800. Our standing commit tees "correspond with the standing ?ommltt'eea- of the General Federation of Women's clubs, though -we do no) itt'empt aggressive work along' all these lines. Our greateBt achievement' this past year was securing an appro priation of $120,000 for a home to. the feeble-minded, for which we had been working for six years, ; 1 i j In co-operation . with the' . Retail Grocers' association, we secured a state: pure" food bill,, which conforms in-every particular with the national bill." 'The energy of our pure foofl committee has been devoted to secur- Ing personal market Inspection foi every town In the state where thert Is a woman's . club- We. did , active work In 'securing the' 10-hour law fOJ women, which lias made Oregon fa mous, and as club women, .we hert return thanks to Justice' Brewer foi the decision that, affects all womer. workers throughout the land. , . ; ; : ,' We always " maintain federation headquarters at the Chautauquaa of the state, and have morning classes studjlng along different, lines of club work," with some able leader brought to us' for. the purpose. This yea,r wr are to. haVe Miss Clark of MIssouK chairman, of our national clvll servlc committee. , ' y We established an educational loan fund a little over a year ago, and at present we have. $700 loaned to fivi Voung women who would otherwise have had to (leave college. ' Our Individual club work Is splen did and Includes every branch pf club jctlvltles, and much outside of thf beaten path. One club of girls In their teens carried 700 bouquets U the hospital in the three summer months. Another small, club paid foi expert treatment-for a cripple boy. Another club helped financially 125 persons,' visited 395 sick people and distributed 1423 garments In one year. Another club maintains a neighbor hood house for free kindergarten, domestic science, manual training and many other things. . Federations in Oregon have been slow of growth, mit a visit from our national president, Mrs. Decker, last yr. jruve it an impetus from which we ar still foiling the good effects, ind fee hope during the next two years many of our clubs will become mem bers of the general federation. The circulation of the "Federation Bulle tin" has increased, I think, and It is valued by all who take It. . I Tbe bureau of information has been of Invaluable help In building up our place was as brilliant as It was un usual, and we were all Inspired with the feeling that the Oregon club wo men had had a glimpse of poetic Jus tire' and 'our senttlon In the house of the law maker of the state was a por tend of the future. , i . t A ,, , ,-;';'V;a,',;v,:V; .Through the J.
