IIVI 1 METROPOLIS Equanimity reigned at the meeting of. Taft clubs in Portland yesterday, and the hatchet is burled until the presidential campaign is over at least, according to County Chairman J. H. Peare who returned this morning from the metropolis, where, with other delegates from the local Taft-Sherman club, he attended yesterday's meeting. Any senatorial stjuabble that may be In the air, does not exist in the presi dential campaign Inr Oreeon, and what rumors there are to that effect are merely muttorlngs of the metro politan dallies of the state. This is the chairman's firm opinion since he has seen the two factions sit together in convention" yesterday without the least semblance of friction or antag onism, ': ' .. .. La Grande's delegation to this meeting in Portland yesterday con sisted of County Chairman Peare,' W. J. Snodgrass and Fred B. Currey, sec retary of the local Taft-Sherman club. Two of these were given honors by the 70 members present. In that Mr ouougrass Is first ylce-presldent of the state federation . of clubs, and J. . H. Peare was temporary chairman and had in his hands the appointment of preliminary committees, a matter of deep Importance to the welfare of the meeting. In such capacity he appolnt sd the following: .. Credentials A. W. Orton of Mult nomah, W. J. Snodsrass of Union, G. W. Riddle of Douglas. - Permanent organization E. AV. Haines of. Washington, C. B. Merrick of Multncmah, Dr. Cottel of Multno mah. Constitution and by-laws Hat Pat ton of Marion, Frank J. Slnnott ol Multnomah, O., Swackh'ammer of Union. Resolutions H. Daniels of Multno mah, V. E. Williams of Washington, Y. G. Freeman of Linn. When the meeting was fairly or ganized the constitution and by-laws committee decided to appoint presi dents from every county In the state, and Lucius Wright of Union bears that Clstlnctlon from Union county. Editor Kennedy of Baker City, li on one of the permanent committees and will aid. In giving Taft eastern Oregon and, the state In fact, by large' majority. That there was no conflict between 'he two factions which In reality exist In the state, but whose paths diverge at obstacles otner man inoHe. of the presidential campaign, was plainly evinced by tho selection of a Fulton man, Kulpl, as permanent secretary. Mr. Peare I? homo, determined to spread Taft gosn-1 and prognosticates n 2"i.onb to 30,000 majority for Taft In November. ' Hiiffrniin Goes tt Ailx-rtn.
