F, Campbell returned yesterday from a trjp up the Grande Ronde river, whore he made a careful inspection of all the bridges crossing that stream. He finds that two new bridges practically m-ed to be replaced with new ones, ind vhe will so report to the county court at Its next session. Union county now has 23 bridges, counting only those with more than a' 40-foot span. tiix of these bridges axe steel structures and four are combination structures. Mr. Campbell Informs us that the court has decided to do Its own construction work for a while, believing that a substantial saving to the taxpayers can be made thereby. the first bridge to be erected under the plan win be ther steel one across Catherine creek at Union. It Is be lieved that a saving of 11000 can be made on this one bridge. Mr. Camp bell has had many years' experience contracting firms In the west, and Is thoroughly capable of successfully overseeing the work,' The Union coun ty court Is ever on the look out for an opportunity to make every dollar expended bring full value In return and there seems to be no reason to be lleve that this new plan will result In better bridges at a lessened cost PRUITT LOCATED. . . Mlxsln;; Pendleton Attorney Found In Wyoming, "Slinging HomIi." W. C. E. Prultt, former Pendleton lawyer, Is now at Sheridan. Wyo.. or at least was there a few days ago, and wheif- seen' was engaged -In "slinging hash." "The first news that has been re celd from Prultt since he was seen by H. C Willis soon after his disap pearance was that conveyed in a let tor which Fred Taylor received from Dan Bowman yesterday. In the letter, which was written from Sheridan, Wyo., Mr; Bowman, who Is now working there as an elec trician, says that he saw Prultt last week. Mr. Bowman himself was do ing some electrical wiring at that time and when he saw the former Pendle tonlan asked him where he was going. Prultt replied that ho was bound for Chicago. He seemed to be In good spirits and was making good as a waiter. Since he left this city so suddenly during July Prultt has not sent a line In explanation1 of his conduct to any of his friends or relatives In this piace. His disappearance Is still a unac countable as before and all who knew him are remarking at his peculiar ac tion. According to those who are In po sitions to know, Prultt's affairs were entirely straight when he left and there was nothing In tho way of busi ness trouble that could have caused him to flee. As an attorney he hud charge of several estates, but appar. ently the money belonging to them was untouched. HITTER LANDS PRIZE. In One) of Seven to Re- Given Salon Award ami Get a hiker Medal.
