During a statutory applica tion of this principle, prosperity has abhlcj with us, When a revenue tar iff has been the iaw, adveinlty and want have been our portion. Our democratic brethren, whose memories are. as short as their , promises are frail, and who have always exhibited a lack of capacity to profit by exper ience, unmindful of the distress and destruction that arrived and departed with the last democratlo admlnlHtra tloii -de;Iarcs in their platform that they favor such "Immediate revlsln of scheduli-s .is may oe ncces ry t. In the light of history, what Is sue of the campaign so vitally affects American citizens? Experience, that effective teacher effective save with the one-mnn power now parading un der the title of the democratic party has taught the nation a valuable les son and the result of the coming No vember election will once more prove the American people to be apt schol ars. What the laborer-of the land, skilled and unskilled, desires is the opportunity at all times to exchange his brain and brawn for good pay In money. A protective tariff and the gold Btnndard, both now the existing achievements of the republican party, In spite of democratic opposition, give the laborer that opportunity. The republican p-v-ty believes In the equality of all r.it n b 'fore the law; believes In g-?.n;lr.g labor's ever request that doen nut seek to accord rights to one man denied to nnnlher. Fair-minded labor nj't no more, no less, ami approves the record of the republican party because of that par7 ty's acts. I have helped to make my party's record in the enactment of the eight hour law, the employers' liability act. the statute to minimize tho hazard of railroad employes, tho child labor law for the District of Columbia and other enactments designed especially to Improve the conditions of labor, cannot hope to better state my position on Injunctions than by a specific en dorsement of Mr. Taft'a Cincinnati declaration on that subject That en dorsement I make. As a nation our duty compels that by every constitutional and reasona ble means the material and education al ocndltlon of the colored race be ad vanced. This we owe to ourselves as well a to them. As the result of a course of events that can never be re versed, they are a part of our clvlilza tlon; their prosperity la our prosperi ty; their debasement would be our misfortune. The republican party, therefore, will offer every encourage ment to the thrift. Industry and Intel ligence that will better their prospect of higher attulnment. I believe In the maintenance of such an army, the upbuilding of such a navy as will be the guarantee of the protection of American citizens and American Interests everywhere, and on. omen of peace; that at every ex posed point we may be so fortified thnt no power on earth may be tempt ed to molest us. I believe In the re storation of the American merchant marine and In rendering whatever fl nanclal aid may be necessary to ae eompllsh this purpose. I approve the movement for the conservation of our natural resources; the fostering of friendly foreign rela tions; the enforcement of our civil sen-Ice law, and the anactment of such statutes as will mor securely and more effectively preserve the public health. I have not touched upon every plank of our splendid platform, but I re Iterate my full and unqualified ap proval of Its every promise. (ConUnued on pegs I.)
