GIGGEMIKI.MS CONTROL ALASKA Rumora Say Rich WeMornccs Are In Control of LrgixUture. Denver, July Jl. A telegram re ceived from Juneou, Alaska, makes the charge that the Guggenheim Inter ests are planning to force the election of an Alaska delegate and control the Alasknn legislature. The message, which was made public today, was addressed to the "Rocky Mountain News," and signed by the "Dispatch" nf Juneau, and a number of demo crats of that ter'rltery. Former Gov ernor Osborne of Wyoming, announced hli Intention of looking Into the case. LA GRANDE, ORE. BELL GIVE IIIS RIGHTS The treasurershlp of Wallowa coun ty Is legally vested in W. T. Bell, who was elected at the June election, but who did not assume the dutlc.8 of the office until Wednesday of thin week. After the ejection the former treasurer, Frank A. Roavls, refused to turn over the records and some 125,300 of the , county money, on the grounds that Mr. Bell, under our constitution, could not hold two remunerative offices at one and the same time, he being post master of the city of Enterprise. Bell brought mandamus proceedings, also ;:n""v,r " frntrt proceedings for re fusing to turn over the office. Dan Sheahan represented Reavis and C. H. Finn of this city represented Mr. Bell. Judge Knowles beard the case Wednesday and sustained the matt' damus action and directed Reavis to conform with the order of the court, and In case the order was obeyed, the contempt case would be dismissed. . While the facts did not come out in the trial, there Is every reason to be licve that the $25,100 was fhe covet ed prize that brought forth the litiga tion. It Is understood that Reavis under his administration, deposited the money In a certain bank, and that Bell made certain ante-election prom ises that If he was elected he would place the funds In another. Bell has resigned his postofflce position and turned it over to his bondsmen, his successor not having been as yet ftp poiniea. inn case- became quite a feature in Wallowa political and com mercial circles, but It Is all history now. Bell has the office and hit name will be required on the back of the warrants hereafter when presented for payment. ' . TO COLLECT WATER RENT.
