KENXISOX GIRL POl'lXAIt. Tho Victim of a Craxed. and DUoi pointed Lover. Pendleton, July St. Additional de tails of the murder and suicide at Echo yesterday show that the cou ple had been corresponding, but that the girl had grown tlrd of Stoffle's attentions. One of the letters from her to Stoffle said as much. A posse of 40 men was Immediately formed, and within 20 minutes was In hot pursuit of the murderer, who had fled to the low sagebrush-covered hill near town. While the posse was searching for him, Stoffle had circled through the hills and returned to the Whltworth barn, where he hanged himself. Regarding the murderer and his victim; the East Oregonlan com ments as follows: The entire little town was shocked by the crime. Miss Kenison was a favorite among all the people. She was 18 years of age and graduated from the Echo publlo school last spring. Her mother Is married to E. E. Elder, a well known citizen of Echo, and two brothers, L. G. and Charles Kenison, live at Fosters.' B. R. Stoffle, the murderer, hns been working for Mr. Elder for some time, and la 14 years of age, a man of medium height, round face and somewhat erratic temperament. Since the Fourth of July he has been going with Miss Kennlson, and It Is the sup position that she had rejected him. and maddened because of this, he de termined on the horrible crime. Miss Kennlson was highly respected ernd universally liked by every one, and It Is not believed that she encour aged his attentions. As there are no eye-witnesses to the crime and no one heard the conversation preceding the murder, the entire secret of the affair Is in the keeping of the murderer. National Park for Raker County. Mr. Smith, one of the United States geologists, has Just returned from the fossil beds of Eugle mountains and brought with him over 1000 pounds of fossils. He discovered an old sea beach with the sand, sea shells and sea gravel all In place. The prufes sor was amazed at this wonderful bit of practically unknown territory and It is likely, with his help, and the ef forts of the Cltlsens' league, that with in another year tho government will be Interested and take this up ,and develop the same as a permanent na tional park. It will be easy of access via the Eagle Valley railroad and at an early date the commercial bodies of the city will do what U necessary to Interest the proper government officials.
