Does human health depend on one I organ alone? This question is becom ing widely discussed since L. T. Cooper Brut advanced his theory thtit the stomach is the true seat of life and all health dependent upon It, Mr. Cooper, who has met with re markable success In the sale of his new medicine, believes that the stom ach is rcsnonslulB for most sickness, end that this or;an la weak In tbo jtrescnt goncration. Whilo disctiFnlng this theory recently, be said: "1 atn turned time and again to lull why lay medicine Las made such a record Vherever I have Introduced it. The Governor EnthusiaMtlc Over Re. . eeption Accorded Him, Before leaving for Portland Satur day evening Governor Chamberlain expressed himself as being greatly pleased with his visit to eastern Ore gon, and especially With the cordial reception given him by the officials and citizens of this city.- Although he came only upon legal business, Mr. Chamberlain readily agreed to make a short address In the evening before the time of departure of his train. He spoke but a short time, but In the few minutes at his command he paid graceful tribute to the beauties and resources of the Grande Ronde valley, and to the enthusiasm and loyalty of the citizens of La Grande. The governor was Jaken for a short automobile tour of the district sur rounding the town by Mayor Hall, and returned Just In time to fill his ap pointment to speak. . Pearce, the alleged get rich quick artist, who operated as section foreman of the O. R. k. N. at Uma tilla, was given a double dose In Judge OUUland's court yesterday morning, says the Pendleton Tribune. Pearce had been arrested the day before, and his bonds fixed at 1250, which sum he put up in cash, Testerday morning at 10 o'clock the preliminary hearing was called and Pearce, upon learning that the same bond would suffice, waived his preliminary hearing and was bound over to the grand Jury In the sum of $250 aa ball. Scarcely had Pearce left the judge's office when It was learned ' that he had Instructed the railroad company to send his check to Huntington. This looked suspicious and a second Infor mation was filed and a new warrant Jusued. t'pon being arrested for the second time and brought before the maitlKtrate he waived all proceedings and was held In 1250 ball. This money he dww from his pocket and tossed It toward the officials. It was' about the limit and the de fendant was allowed to go his own way under that amount of ball. The prosecution believes that they have a clear case against Pearce. Pendleton Federal Building.
