He will make Walla Walla his' home, where he has secured a position In the Old Kentucky saloon. Mrs. J. T. Mitchell and daughter of Sioux City, Iowa, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Oesterllng. Sirs. Smith Is. Mr. Oesterllng's sister. She is a teacher In the Bollinger Conservatory of Music, at Fort Smith, Ark. John Proebstel, who last visited In La Grande, in 1883, is here on a visit with relatives. He was hardly pre pared to find. a city upon what was a farm when he left.- Mr. Proebstel has been In Nevada. Mrs. Jennie McDowell and children and Mrs. Frances McShain, went over to Union this morning to visit Mrs. Tom H. Hughey. Tomorrow Mm. Mr. and Mrs. Fred B. Currey, who have been touring the south and Cal ifornia, after 'leaving Peoria, III., af ter the meeting of the nation encamp ment of the Woodmen of America, to which Mr. Currey was a delegate, re turned home Sunday evening. They have been away a little over . five weeks, and covered a large section of the United States. son's grove Wednesday. Saturday evening a great gutherlng of our people assembled at the corner of Adams avenue and Depot etreet to hear an address of Governor Cham berlain. It was a beautiful evening. The streets were Illuminated with strings of electric lights. Many of the business houses were decorated in .the national colors.'
