County's Finances Divided, With the announcement yesterday that the commission appointed by Governor Chamberlain to settle the financial division of Wasco county, In cident to the forming of the new county, that their work was finished, Hood River county becomes an In tegral portion of the Oregon common wealth. The commission consisted of William Benrlchs, county Judge of Sherman county: A. J. Derby, county Judge of Hood River county, and A. E. Lake, county Judge of Wasco coun ty. Charles H. Sproat of Hood River, had been appointed to act on the com mission; 1ut h refused to take up the work, hence tho appointment of the Judge of the new county. The commission dealt with the di viding of the county finances, both the moneys in the treasury to be de voted to- the various county funds. and the taxes which are to be collect ed under the present assessment roll. The work was begun July . but ow ing to difficulties encountered in look ing up the records, the duties of the commission were not finished until yesterday. said yesterday: "You may say tor us that the settlement has been made to the satisfaction of the commission ap pointed by the governor to do the work, and that though the work pro gressed slowly, owing to the necessi ty of tracing up accounts In the rec ords, when completed It represents the quota of both Hood River and Wasco county as nearly as we could get at It We trust the work will prove satisfactory, as .we were par ticularly careful that each county should receive its share of the funds." The Dalles Chronicle. New Barley Coming In. Offerings of this year's harvest of barley are being brought to the city by the ranchers. So far no new wheat has come In.
