Hendricks, of Alton, Iowa, who have been for several days the guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Cleaver, made a trip to the Palmer" Lumber company's camps Tuesday and Wednesday, and left for the east this morning. Through the Real Estate, Loan & Commission company, Roy Dobbs, of Union, disposed of 80 acres of land yesterday, for the snug sum of $6, 500. The land is located near Union, and the purchaser Is John Davis Hun ter, who a few days ago disposed of his Mt. What was done for the celebration was meant only to stay up the one night, and to turn the lights on and off ne cessitated a good deal of extra work. Lots of people will be down town tonight In order to enjoy the festal appearance of the streets and to at-. tend the electric shows, which ore both equipped with electric fans and are nice places to spend an hour. Both Mr. Sherwood and Mr. Wilson, good percentage of their receipts for the next week to the lighting fund and are deserving ot extra pairouage now. INLAND EMPIRE BASEBALL (Continued from pag X.) disappears after tomorrow, there will be high class baseball between the La Grande and Baker City aggregations for a period of six weeks, three series at each town. Of course, this will not be under league protection, but It will be fast ball and something worth go ing to see. Final arrangements for this deal will be made tomorrow. There Is a slight chance of the scheme falling through today, but it appears certain. In the game today and the games tomorrow there may be a wholesale shifting of positions. The other throe teams ate in such relative position that a string of victories by one and of losses by the others 'will change the standing materially. It is only to be expected that the game tomorrow will be hard fought. Walla Walla won from Pendleton yesterday after noon by a score of 4 to 3. LOCAL ATTOHXKY HONORED. Ing accepted an invitation, extended to him some time ago, to become a member of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. This membership carries with It quite an honorable distinction. In as much as It Is composed of some of the greatest scientists end economists of the day. Ellhu Root, secretary of state, !s a member, and many of the member ship of the institute of France, of the Royal Geographical Society and other similar orgmlrntlons belong to It.
