'Phone No. ltlxt 4, 4 4- THE RIVER CRA KELT Advices have been received from Huntington to the effect that the Ore gon Short Line has resumed work on the Northwest railroad, the extension from Huntington Homestead, which Is the first line In the Huntington-Lewls-ton proposed cut-off, says the Tele gram. It Is stated that the O. S. L. office at Salt Lake, from which point this work will be directed, has issued Instructions for the construction work to be rushed with as much dispatch as possible. To that end three large grading out fits were assembled at Huntington Saturday, and they have gone down the river to the various camps which were abandoned when the general re trenchment policy of the Harrtman system was adopted last fall at the time of the financial flurry. . The Northwest Railroad company, which Is to be a feeder for the Oregon Short Line, proposes to complete the 60-mlle road from a point about two miles out of Huntington and while it Is to be built principally and for the immediate present, at least to furnish an outlet for the ores of the Iron Dyke copper mine, It is believed that it Is but the first link In a cut-off from Huntington to Lewiston, which, when completed, will be the main line of the Oregon Short Line, and will divert through traffic from Salt Lake to Portland away from the heavy up and down haul over the Blue mountains, which Interpose the stlffest grades In the entire length of the O. S. L. Through traffic, both freight and passenger, will then be sent down at absolute water grade from Hunting ton to Portland, by way of Lewiston, connecting at that point with the Lew-lston-Rlparla cut-off, over which the first through train was just run, and which was commemorated by the ex cursion of Portland business men to Lewiston and Clarkston. . With such a cut-off In operation,, a train could start at Huntington and "coast" all the way to Portland, run ning along the Snake river gorge to Lewiston and then following the O. R. & N. from Umatilla Junction, through Pendleton and Baker City to Huntington, would be a branch line and service would bo local In charac ter. The Potlme Cliangca. At the Pastime this afternoon was seen a complete change. The center of attraction and the big hit of the season at this popular amusement place is the "Sleeping Beauty," a film over 1000 feet long and entirely hand painted. Managers La Fountain & Dozler say this is the most remarkable film sent out by any house.' The en tire proRram Is to be seen In the house ad. in this issue. For Snle.
