All the receipts go to the band, and as the musical organization Is going to be a strong figure In La Grande's Saturday attractions hereafter, It necessarily needs more money. To supply the city with music the band must be In position to buy music, and the re ceipts of tonight's and 'tomorrow night's performances will be sent through that channel. La Grande ' National Bank Building. The La Grande band will give an open air concert at 7:30 this evening. MARTIX STILL IN JAfL. Arrangements for Securing Release on Bonds Being Made Today. Dwlght Martin, a young man of Cove, was arrested last evening and brought to La Grande on a warrant made out in February of 1906. Mr. Martin left Cove about that time and has only recently returned. He is ac cused of larceny In an office, when, It is alleged he took a pair of shoes. His friends are trying to procure bonds for him this afternoon. I Commencing at 8 o'clock tonight, Mr. Zimmerman will open his Jecture at the skating rink on Intemperance. He Is an orator of considerable ability and Is extremely well posted on hip topic. The lecture Is free and all who wish to hear a learned discourse on this subject can be treated this eve ning. NOTICE OF FINAL SETTLEMENT. Miss Josephine McConnell, One of Elgin's public school teachers, passed through the city this morning en route to her home at Ontario. . . Dr. and Mrs. Seemann and J. T Williamson, are in ' Union today at tending the district presbyterial, which meets there today and tomorrow Mrs. S. E. McDougal, who has been visiting Mrs, C. County School Superintendent E. E, Bragg went to Allcel this morning on matters pertaining to the schools of that district Miss Carrie Millspaugh, state mtsr slonary for the Baptist church, is vis iting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Kirtley. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Berry made a business trip to Cove today. They were accompanied by little Constance Hall. Mrs. H. H. Kelnath of Portland, passed through the city this morning on her way to Enterprise, where she will visit at the home of W. R. Holm es. W. R. Holmes, of the National Bank of Enterprise, arrived on last night's train. Mr. Holmes came out to meet his aunt, Mrs. H. H. Kelnath, who re turned with him this morning. Mrs. H. H. Cribb and daughter of Tekoa, Wash., passed through La Grande today on their way to Enter prise, where they will visit relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Hug are ex pected home tonight from Turlock. Cal., where they spent the winter for Mrs. Hug's health. They go on to their home In Elgin tomorrow morn ing. Many fans from Island City and sev eral from La Grande are planning on going to Walla Walla tomorrow to at tend the trl-state track meet. The preliminaries are on Thursday and the finals on Friday. E. W. Rumble of Elgin, wis a La Grande visitor last night. Mr. Rum ble is the republican candidate for Joint senator between Union and Wal lowa counties, and will undoubtedly be. the next Joint senator. Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Metz returned yesterday from La Grande, where they had been for several days. They will be at the Hotel Pendleton for a few weeks before returning to Chica go. Pendleton E. O. Mrs. M. Wllley, who has been vis iting friends and relatives In La Grande and Allcel, returned to her home near Payette this morning. She was accompanied by her nephew, Les lie Falannery. Russell, of this city, left on this morn ing's train for Baker City. O. W. McClaran and J. H. Stltt filed on homesteads this morning. Mrs. Alma C. Llley made proof on a claim under the timber and stone act this morning. G. W. Murmane, forest ranger from Wind River, Wyo., went to Wallowa this morning on official business. A. T. Hill Is putting his soda foun tain in order and expects to be ready for business by tomorrow. Mrs. Elva Edmunds, who is visit ing friends In Union, expects to be away about two weeks. Mrs. Alma Llley expects to leave to night for California, to be away about two months. While there, she will visit her son, Sidney Haines, who lives at Vallejo, Judge Henry and County Commis sioners Brown and Selder, went to Hot Lake this morning to receive a piece of road being built near that place. The many friends of .
