But the voters out here, who know tittle or nothing of either yourself or Mr. Rusk, personally, have a right to know to what extent you are a representa tive citizen. Tou have not attempted to answer any charge against yourself, or deny any claim made for Rusk, other than by evasive Insinuation. A few questions, and I am done.- Why did you not, when preparing your rec ord of "refutation" refute the charge of your licensing gambling In Joaeph.. by giving the record already made by yourself, showing who had been fined, how often and the amount?. Does not your record show no fine over $10.00 for this offense, and no oftener than once each month ? Why did you not tell the people that a city attorney docs not Impose penalties, and city re corders do, and that you arc now cltj 1 We are now prepared to furnish first-class Ice Cream In any quantity, at the following prices: ICE 20c 40c $1.25 per per per No deiive'ies made for less quantities than one gallon. Eberhard: If your "complete refutation" ap pearing In The Observer and Star, is reliable, does it not prove too much? It contains the names of what you claim, are registered republican voters of Joseph. Having list of registered votera of all precincts In Wallowa county, you know that 1 know the names on your list are not confined to Joseph precinct. But you have mnde your showing, and' claim it to be "complete."' If ao, and the regis tration showing 11 registered repub lican votera In Joseph precinct, after deducting your faithful 23, Rusk will have remaining 138 votes, or a clear majority of 115 votes. See? But I do' not claim that either your figures rmwdpr at Joseph? JUU. . .......-. My only excuse for defending Rusk here is the fact he haa been misrepre sented where, like yourself, he is lit tle known. Tou charge me with being the political godfather of Mr. Rusk. Well, we were like Fulton's story of Blll'a brother who was making love to the colored cook. It waa the best Wf could do. Tou see you have not been In Joseph long enough to be a god father, or anyklnd of a father, fo that matter, and we had no chance to make you our choice. Will you for give ua thla trespass? Rusk waa a re publican long before I knew htm, and I have no more to do with his politi cal creeds or actions than you do. In . public office he haa made good. His ' private life and character are above reproach. That'a all. I will not stanr silently by and hear a personal friend ' misrepresented, when others are to b Influenced by the attack. I wouI" rather be known as'loyal In my friend ships, than to be known aa a political "trimmer," for . example, signing for It. Do you know of an instance like this? I do. Respectfully submitted, F.
