Joseph Gaston la In the city today looking after support for the office of railroad sommissloner. He says: "I passed through this valley on the top f a stage coach nearly 40 years ago; I have seen all of the garden spots west of the Rocky mountains, but his valley excels them all for beauty, limine and fertility of soil. The great possibilities of this valley In the pro duciton of fruit Is limtied only by the lupply of intelligent labor and reason- iDle freight rates. With these as- ured, this rteh valley land in bearing orchards, at a thousand dollars an i.cre, would be like selling double agles at $5 apiece. "Having built the first railroad in he state from the gorund bp, and run i large farm for 25 years, to furnish relght for the railroads, I understand ill sides of the railroad commission er's duties. I am the only candidate for this office personally Interested in the development of eastern Oregon and If the people of Union county give me their support, I promise them that they shall not be disappointed, and that I will give them my best ef forts to secure for them entire justice on these railroads, on which their prosperity and welfare rest."
