As lunar as we as a nation do not keep any larger stand 4ng army than has been our policy in the past, we must depend in every great crisis on our volunteers and the mllltla is capable of supplying the na tion with a large body of active young men who have, to a greater or less ex tent, military training. This Is the real object, but there Is also a social feature that has advantages, all of which goes to make city life. La Grande had a splendid mllltla com pany for many years, and should have one now. e ' Every business man In the city jhould say a good word for Market day next Saturday. . These day should become fixed periods not less than once every month, and the peo ple would look forward to them, knowing that on these fixed days La Grande would hold a Market day. see There Is considerable Interest being taken by the owners of fine stallions in the valley on Horse show day In La Grande next Saturday. There Is every indication that there will be i fine number of horses on exhibition. ee-e JOSEPH REPUBLICANS' STAND. Promised Statement From Iswdlng Citizens Furnished.
