George Benson has returned from the Malheur oil fields, after 10 days' absence. . Mrs. Hiram Llvengood came down from North Powder this week. 111 with appendicitis. Swackhammer Is In Portland at present, after a tour of the east and south. He expects to return to Union soon. Hon. A, E. Eaton Is out once more, after an illness covering period of It days or two weeks. He has had, a severe time of it, but is now on the road to recovery. Brlnt Sturgill of North Union, who has been H wltn pneumonia recently, is reported so far recovered as to be out of danger. Tom Flcklin last week sold his fine team of draft mares to a North Union man for $500. This seems like a top price for a team of horses, but the money got one of the finest teams in eastern Oregon. Hlxson, who recently re signed as pastor of the Methodist church on account of broken health has moved his family to Hackett's sawmill, where they will remain dur- Ing the summer, and where the re tired pastor will run the engine dur Ing the milling season, hoping that worjt of that nature will restore his health. Peal Stork, a girl of 9 years, who resides with her parents near Plass Bros.' mill, was the victim of an ac cident last Saturday wnich resulted In breaking both bones of one of her iegs. ' The girl was closing a sliding loor on the barn, when It left the track and fell. She was unable to get rom under the door and it caught her below the knees, resulting In the above stated Injury. Dr. Whiting was called and reduced the fractures. Many of Elgin's business men and :ltlzcns are agitating the matter of holding a grand celebration on July I, and are anxious that the prelimin ary work be commenced at an early date. Elgin held no celebration last year and It Is the opinion of all that a rousing time can be had this year. Wilbur arrived home from San Francisco Thursday morning where he spent the winter. Mr. Wil bur informs us that he has purchased a .hotel in that city and-enpects to muke thct his business henceforth.
