A Colfax dispatch says: The coun ty commissioners will begin macad amizing the roads leading south from Colfax within the next week or, 10 days. The rock crusher will be lo cated at the top of the grade leading out of town on the Almota road, and the prisoners under sentence In the county Jull wlll'be employed In its operation, the commissioners having authorized Sheriff Ratllff to put on a special deputy to guard them. The work of hauling the, crushed rock and distributing it will be done free by the farmers along the roads. It was the intention of Commissioner Ellis, In whose district these roads are, to have had this work done under the new highway law passed,, by the last legislature, but there was some ' defect In the estimate, and also in the matter of selecting thft nnrt to ho Im proved, and the engineer employed by the state highway commissioner turn ed the project down on the ground that the bids submitted by the con tractors who figured on the work, were far In excess of the amount of contracts for similar , work In other parts of the state. It Is probable that another attempt to have the roads worked under the provisions of this law will be made next year, if the bids submitted at that time are low enough to justify the expenditure. puBue Senator Chas.
