BEAM, La if SALARY The office of railroad commissioner, with Its salary of J4000 per year, has attracted a number of candidates In the eastern Oregon or Second congres sional district, there being now eight candidates for office In the field, says the East Oregonlan. Clyde B. Aitchlson, who Is now member of the1 commission from this district, Is a candidate for re-election, but Is being vigorously opposed by the railroads and certain Interests In Port land. W. H. Hurlburt, formerly with the passenger department of the O. R. & N., Is understood to be the railroad candidate, as a number of railroad of ficials have been heard to boost him for the place. The republican candidates for the place are C. B. Aitchlson. W. H. Hurl burt, C. C. Loucks, Joseph Canton, The democratic candidates are J. N. Teal and Ogiesby Toung. C. C. Loucks, formerly a Southern Pacific conductor. Is the railroad em ployes' candidate and Is making a vig orous and efficient campaign. Owing to his long railroad experience he Is looked upon as a logical man for the place. Friends of Mr. Aitchlson are warmly urging his candidacy, owing to the fact that he Is now in office and has made an excellent showing. Hamilton, who has been In the liquor business In Portland for a num ber of years, was a former sheriff of Union county and a member of Ore gon's first railroad commission, ap pointed about 14 years ago.
