Addresses will be made by several prominent railroad men and commer cial leaders In favor of "safer and saner" legislation. It Is declared by many delegates that the stringent anti-trust and reform laws have re sulted In driving many Industries from Texas and that a continuation of such radical legislation would become a positive menace to the prosperity and development of the state. IIIII LEAVES II RAC E Sev. sltlon as engineer of the Elgin flour- mill, and Miss Delia, daughter of and Mrs. J. M. Hlxson of El gin, which took place In this city last evening at the home qf Presiding El der J. D. GlUllan, wherein the father of the bride, Rev. Hlxson, performed the ceremony. The happy young couple left on the evening train, ac companied by the bride's sister, for Portland, and they may conclude to visit San Francisco before returning to Elgin, where they will make their home. The facts are, that every statement In the Star Is false, aside from the fact that the marriage took place, and Is wholly Inexcusable, for an examin ation would have disclosed the truth, which Is, that the marriage was not . opposed by Mr. and Mrs. Hlxson, as Is plainly to be seen by referring to the office of the county clerk, where a letter Is on file giving his const nt, and asking that a license be granted his daughter, who Is under age. The ar rangements had been made for the entire family to come to La Grande on last evening's train, which arrives at 5:30, after the county offices are closed for the day. This Is why Rev. Hlxson wrote his letter on Tuesday, i This does not look like these excellent young people were "surreptitiously married." Mr. Bushnell rode In the same car with his bride and other members of the party and not "secret ed In the baggage car" as alleged. In view of the actual facts It would look , like a case of mixed drinks and a de tXrt to write a sensational article wherein the writer saw an opportunity to humiliate a minister and his fam ily. Rev. and Mrs. Hlxson are Justly In dignant and Mr. Hlxson visited an at torney's office where he was In formed that he had Just cause for a libel suit, which may follow. The following, denuded of the sensational head, Is the article which appeared In the Star: J"Ear! Bushnell and Delia Hlxon, daughter of Rev. Hlxon of Elgin, were surreptitiously but none the less se curely married In La Grande last night, a local minister performing the ceremony. But It was a consumma tlon that was reached only after the surmounting of obstacles and protests. Thej girl's parents objected to the match. As a means of thwarting the . union Rev.
