She will represent -North Powder at the annual eastern Oregon Interscholastic oratorical con , test at Baker City this spring. Mrs. M. E. McCall of North Bend, Kansas, and Mrs. Margaret J. Burk hart, of Los Angeles, left today for Willamette valley points, after visit ing relatives In the Grande Ronde valley. Mrs. McCall will return to her eastern home after a tour of the coast. There was a splendid attendance last night at the Commercial club, to hear the reports of the committee on the proposed financial reorganization of the club, which provides for refund ing the present debt, which, all told, amounts to (10,000; this will Include a proposed expenditure of about $1, 000 for new furniture, papering and additions to the athletic rooms. The new plan proposes that each member and prospective members subscribe for one share of stock. This Is expected to raise not less than 13 uuu. satisfactory arrangements can be made for the paying of the 110 Bhare on the installment plan if de sired. Mr. Scriber, tn order to asslBt some of the younger members, sub scribed for It shares, which can be paid at the rate of '$1 per month or more. After a thorough discussion most all present thought the plan an ideal one and the soliciting commit tees will get busy after next Monday. Every one present was unanimous for maintaining the club, and if the mem bership can be increased, there is no danger whatever, but that It can be satisfactorily reorganized. Following are two agreements, one which covers those wishing to join, and the other those who are already members: ' Commercial Vor Non-Members. La Grande, Ore., March t, '08. Whereas the La Grande Commercial club is an Institution which has done very much good work toward building up La Grande and Union county; and Whereas, the field for progressive work In the future Is widening and the club can be of vast benefit to the town; and, , . Whereas, the club, at the present time, Is In rather straightened finan cial circumstances, and needs to en large its membership by holding the members It already has and getting as many new members as possible;, and. Whereas, It would be beneficial to the club to absorb the' Building & Loan association and own the build ing; therefore, I, the undersigned citizen of La Grande, who am not at present m member of the La Grande Commercial club, do hereby agree to join the club and buy one share of the Building & Loan association as an initiation fee, and the ownership of the share of stock to remain In me, and that I will hold my membership for at least one year from this date and pay my dues of 11.25 each month in advance, as the same becomes due. ft Is understood that If the membership of the club can be Increased to 200 the duet will be reduced to SI per month.
