Confer on Freight Rates, Announcement was made this morn Ing that the second meeting between the committee from the Farmers' Union and the officials from the O. R. & N. and N. P., for the purpose of securing a reduction In the freight rates of grain bags, would be held Saturday afternoon in the O. R. & N, ticket office in this city, says the Wal la Walla Bulletin. According to District Agent Robert Burns of the O. R. & N., R. B. Miller of Portland will be present at the meeting, and upon good authority It was learned that Henry Blakley of the N. P. will also be present. With a view to securln a lower rate on grain bags between Portland and Soiyid points and Walla Walla, the farmers of this section of the country asked for this meeting to be held Feb ruary 16. The meeting was held at that time, but Henry Blakley of the N. P. could not be present and the sec ond one Is made necessary. Farmers claim that the Dresent rate, which Is M cents for carload lots, and 5 cents for less than carload lots, Is too high, and the hearing here Saturday will be for the purpose of hearing the protests of the farmers. and for the purpose of Investigating the grounds upon which they ask for the reduction. Just what reductions will be called for by the farmers Is not known, but they will probably en deavor to have the rate reduced to about half. Cured Hcmorrliagca of the ruing).
