C . . . .1 ouiuruay evening mere was a re publican gathering at Haines and the organization of the Garfield club, which was begun some time ago, was completed, says the Herald of Baker City. It was sort of a Washington celebration held In the Granite hall at Haines with Manager O'Brien as host. The program consisted of music and speeches. C. J. Osborne sang two popular selections and Henry McKln ney boosted the Oregon university and the appropriation bill. After some time had been thus consumed the republicans withdrew to the Odd Fel lows' hall and completed organization of the Garfield club. C. J. Osborne was elected president, P. 11, Durgan, vice-president; W D. Nelson, secretary, and G. W. Van. wald, treasurer. Speeches were deliv ered by Mr. Oosborne, Jlr, McKlnney, air. vanderwald and a hlimber ot others, the prlncpal theme being the necessity of choosing good men for candidates at the primaries and then unite a strong effort for the whole ticket At the polls. It was decided that the Garfield ?lub should hold a grand rally on March 7th, at which time the Lincoln club of Baker City will be invited to be present. U'ood Notice.
