T. HUL drufftat ; . PROSPECTS ,f BRIGHT Seattle, Feb, 11. (Special corres pondence.) The work on the grounds and building of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific exposition goea on without In terruption. The Manufacturer build ing will soon be ready for the placing of the big roof, while tbe Agriculture building Is rapidly taking shape. The Auditorium, Machinery and Fine Art building, permanent structures, will soqn be under Way, aa likewise will the Mine and Fisheries buildings. The exposition 1 gaining many more friend In congress. A favora ble hearing was. had recently in the house committee on Industrial exposi tions, at which many prominent men appeared In behalf of the 109 fair. Among them was Secretary Taft, who la In favor of liberal appropriation for government participation. The committee In the senate ha reported uaz;s:!t!?K favorably. The ex position measure a It - now stands makes an appropriation' of $700,000. or thi amount SS00.000 Is for build ing and 1 400.000 for exhibit. The exposition management ha assurance that the bill will pas some time in the near future. The entire west Is standing back of the exposition with It support. The following editorial In the Portland Oregonlan adequately expresses " the sentiment felt In the western states In regard to government participation: "In all of the reports coming from Washington, D. C, constant reference Is made to the bad effect which the Jamestown fiasco would have on the expected appropriation for Seattle. If this be the Influence working against the project, it reflects no credit on the Intelligence of the men who are un favorable to a liberal appropriation. "The conditions and Influences which' made a failure of the James town exposition could by a wide stretch of the imagination be con strued as having anything In common with 'those which w ill govern the suc cess or failure of the big show Seattle is preparing. "If the Seattle exposition must be haggled over and cut down because the Jamestown exposition was a fail ure, why would not be fair to pass a liberal 'apporprlatlon, and pass it quickly, because the Portland exposi tion was a grand success? Nearly every element that entered Into th success of the Portland. exposition will be In evidence at Seattle. "The exposition will be a success because the Portland exposition was a success. The western stamp of en terprise and selfrellance was on the Portland project, and It will also be on that of Seattle. It was sadly miss ing from the southern failure. If th bill Is pruned too deeply or should meet with defeat, It will be largely the result of Ignorance on the part of the men opposing It." , Itmolutkin.
