Murdock, formerly a teacher at Ladd Canyon, left for his home In the Willamette valley this morning. Miss Ada Wade left this morning for Walla Walla, where she will visit friends a few days. Mrs. E. P. Staples of La Grande, arrived In the city Saturday to visit with her sister in this city. Baker City Herald. Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Green and Clyde Lyman, all of La Grande, made proofs on timber and stone claims to day. L. E. Tipton is down from Kamela today making proof on a timber and stone claim. His witnesses are Messrs. F. H. Wright and Newcome. Miss Alice SlmpBon Is here from Walla Walla as a guest of her former schoolmates. Misses Frances and Floy Massee. Dr. Blggers was called to Kamela this moYnlng to attend to the wounds of the little girl who was burned there early today. Mrs. C. C. McKennon yesterday sold a younj span of mules to Mr. Howe, who resides a few miles north of town, for $275. Ira Kysdam, who resides in the north end of the county, Is here today visiting his sister, Mrs. John Block land. ' Hardly a day goes by but what the Grande Ronde apple Is sent abroad. Another car was shipped out of here today for Page & Son of Portland. The friends of Miss Lela Wilson will lie glad to learn that she has entirely recovered from her recent siege of ty phoid fever to be able to enter the agricultural college at C'orvallis. . There will be a special meeting of the city council this evening, called for the purpose of arranging for the payment of the new electric motor, which was received a few days ago. PRODIGAL JAP E Charles Mlzoguchl, the Jap who left La Grande several months ago with bills outstanding against him to the tune of something like 13,000, and who has kept himself well under cover somewhere In Portland since that time, la back In La Grande. His arrival last evening 'quickly reached the ears of Sheriff Chlldera, who held several summons ready for service against the oriental who lived high and Is alleged not to have paid his honest debts. This morning Mr. Mlzoguchl was called upon with offl- rial summons from the sheriffs of- flee on claims filed by the Geddes Bros.' company, Ash Bros., A. V. An drews and E. Polack, the grocer. These and many other bills about the city that were unpaid when the sud- I 0 AS I'll .The Commercial club boys are prac ticing regularly In anticipation of meeting the strong Walla Walla boys' team here on the evening of the list f next month. Walla Walla will tour eastern Oregon at that time, and the championship of this portion of Ore gon and eastern Washington Is to be settled at that time. The Walla Wal lans defeated Pendleton boys last Frl lay night by a comfortable margin and will like have met Spokane before coming here. In this way. La Grande rooters and basketball followers will see the best of the country pitted ,aganst the home team next month. CITY LAWS Carl Laistad was ' arraigned this morning before Recorder Snook on a charge of disorderly conduct brought about by looking too often upon the wine cup. He pleaded guilty and was fined I?. Harry McClary was arraigned on the charge of violating the quarantine ordinances of the city. It seems that he was caring for a patient that was undfr quarantine for the smallpox, and becoming lonesome, he thought he would come up town and have a drink or two with the boys, but he was caught and fined 115, in default of which he Is in Jail. A warrant is . out for William Wright on a similar charge, but as he has left theclty It could not be served today. There is little ,use of trying to protect the health of the city by quarantine if those who are quaran tined violate the same. This may serve as a warning to others. Marriage LUvnuw.
