Bragg reached his office this morn ing he found the advance budget of papers awaiting grading. r ' At this early date it Is impossible to even guess at the number which will be promtoed to the high school. This Is partially responsible to the fact that students have three oppor tunities 'of being promoted. Those who have finished a part of the eighth grade curriculum could take examinations In those . particular studies yesterday, and' If successful. the credit will ' be given when the May or June examinations occur. In the event that failures result, the stu dent has two more chances of making good. Thus It will not be possible to give the exact number of promotions from the county rural schools' until after the June exams. About 60 papers covering either complete or partial examinations were written yesterday, and grading Is be ing, utmu uu thwac' turncj Iv county office today, by the county superintendent and Miss Byra Kuhn Definite word from North Powder reached Manager Gulling of the club girls' team today, that the North Powder game next Friday Is a sure go. The team will leave La Grande Friday evening on No. 8 and If pos sible, return the same night. An hour's lateness on the part of No. 5 will allow this. In the meantime the girls will get In some helpful work on . the local floor in practice, and when the whis tle blows for the North Powder game something will be doing. . With the three practices that re. main before the coming game, several faults can be removed. The game will also afford splendid practice and preparation for the Pendleton game at the Umatilla capital two weeks hence. To defeat that team Is the highest ambition of the team and Its supporters, and the North Powder game will do much to further the possibilities of attaining that goal. HIRING MORE MEN. Sawmill at AuHtln Working Steadily All the Time. The Oregon Lumber company Is one of the great distributors of money In eastern Oregon. When in full op eration its payroll Is very large and the greater portion of the money Is spent in and around Baker City. For this reason every one anxiously watches the operation of the mills.
