Rice of Pendleton, Is one of the enthusiastic rooters and supporters of the basketball team from that city, which plays here this evening, who ac companied the squad' to La Grande last evening. Mrs, M. Baker Is arranging to leave In a few days to visit her son Lloyd, who resides at Welscr. L. W.' Damon Is presiding as ponce judge today during the absence of Re corder Snook, who is In Elgin. I Mrs. Anna Gaskel of Allcel, is visit ing Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Berry. She will remain In the city two or three days. , Miss Kate Zwelfel, who has been visiting friends in the city the past two days, returned this morning to her home near Summervllie. O. M. Heacock, formerly a Jeweler In this city, returned this morning to Pendleton after a short business visit here. Mrs. Dr. Spencer of Huntington and Miss Abble Massee of Menomonle, Wis., for the past few months em ployed at Hunttngton, passed through La Grande today en route to Portland. James Connors, formerly conductor on the La Grande freight division of the O. R. & N'l, has been placed In charge of the construction crews at work on the cut-off Just west of town. Pendleton Tribune. Tom Brasier came over from Union this morning to transact business. ' J. S. Parker, Eugene Rellly and Mrs. Cruse of Boise, made proof on Umber and stone claims today. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Oliver ar rived this morning from North Yaki ma, to attend the funeral of their father, the late H. W. Oliver. Mrs. O. T. Galloway leave this eve ning for Union, where she has been called to be at the bedside of her husband, who la very sick. - Mrs. C. P. Wellman, who has been In Portland for several weeks, owing to the serious illness of her mother, who is now greatly Improved, has returned home. ..,.' Walter Miller left La Grande today after making preliminary arrange ments for staging a minstrel of home talent under auspices of the La Grande Elks. He will return in - a short time. . The Pendleton high school debating team. In charge of Prof. J. 3. Landers, arrived in La Grande on the delayed No. 2 last night, and this morning left for Enterprise, where they enter Into forensic combat with the Enterprise school. ' ' Many of our readers will remember meeting Mr. Andrews when' he was hers two years ago. He was In his 74th year and A. V. Andrews was not aware of his sickness, which must have been of only a few days' duration. POWER FROM COVE. Water Turned Into the Ditch This Morning. Manager Fred Housh received a tel ephone message this morning from the Cove station that the ditch had been thoroughly cleaned out and that wa ter had been turned in this morning at 10 o'clock. By night It Is expected that the water will have filled the pipe and a sufficient head secured to ena ble the company to generate current this evening. In case this Is done the water at the La Grande station will be shut off and the power will be fur nlshed by the Cove plant.
