This ie a rather ' peculiar case.' The facte are that Mr. Samuel Ruskman of the Sandridge owed Mr. Geo. Evans who resides on the foothills north of this e:ty $58 and sent him a check for the amount thru the mail addressed to him at La Grande. Geo. EvanaUh boy, who has lived in this city with his parents for sev eral years, called at the post office for his mail and this letter was delivered to him. Upon opening the letter and discovering the check he later presented the same for payment at the La Grande National Bank. He was asked to identify himself, but in stead presented the check to the Farm ers & Traders National Bank, where the check was cashed as the officials knew the boy. As the check was oricirallv drawn on the La Grande National, in the due course of business it was paid by the last named bank and charced to Mr. V. .1 . , . t About two weeks later Mr, Geo. Investigation showed that the boy Geo. Evans had received the check and money instead of the rightful owner, but the boy could not be found. He, it is understood, left for Portland and returned day before yesterday, but instead of returning to his home, stayed with some friends near the railroad stock yards where he was found and arrested, . Here is a legal tangle. . There ie no question but what the boy appropriated money not intended for him and Mr. Ruck man is out with possibly no chanc of re covery. It is not expected that the boy will be, arranged 'until tomorrow and whether the charge will be forgery, or ob taining money under false pretenses, re mains to' be seen.
