control of the transportation companies.

tious commissicn, working on lines of
justice to all of the interests effected,

anniversary of the application of steam
to navigation.

back to 1907 on the Hudson river when
Robert Fulton, launched the Clermont
and the trial trip from New York to
Albany was successfully made, from
which, time steamboats were rapidly
multiplied on all of the navigable waters
of the civilized world.
Robert Fulton will be duly honored at
this exposition, when it is remembered
that it was m 1803, in France, on the
river Lowe, that Fulton made his initial
experiment but after four years of patient
study and after coming to America was
he crowned with success.
The House killed the bill which propos
ed to let counties settle all matters of
division by a popular vote. While there
was justice in the bill, there was also a
possibility of such a law creating dissen-
tion where harmony along such matters
now prevail. This state is rapidly de
eloping and new commercial centers are
being former with each passing year,

coming county seats, thereby causing

Since the passage of the pure food law
and the inspection by the United States
government uf a!! rrarrr f canned and
preserved goods prices on most of ther.e
products are declared to have materially
advanced. The markets all over the
United States have been affected.
It is stated by wholesale dealers that
syrups, canned meats and lard have in
creased in price but their labels have
been changed. The labels now are sup
posed to name the exact article which
the can contains, when in many places
the gaudy label formerly on th outside
of the can was designed to cause the
mouth of the purchaser to water with a
longing for dainties not inside of the can.
Instances are now named where syrups
are now labeled "Maple Blend" instead
of "Pure Maple Syrup". Labels on can
ned meats are said to have been altered
from "Canned Chicken" to "Potted meat
Chicken Flavor." and "Deviled Ham" to
"Canned Pork, Ham Flavor.

advanced ten per cent to 15 per cent
and those quoted on syrups from 6 per
cent to 15 per cent.
