Harry Gib son, lies in the Portland jail, awaiting trial on four serious charges, one of which will be bigamy." Mrs Kitteil is a kindly natured appearing person and the narration frequently caused a quiver of the lips as she related the men tal agonies that she and her daughter passed thru during the long weeks when they knew nothing of the whereabouts of their son and grandson. In reply to fur their inquiries she continued "It is just a year ago this month since my daughter and her husband parted. They were t Tacoma at the time. After considerable difficulty I secured the custody of this boy and his brother who is fifteen months old row. From that time on, to las', Nov ember, the children were with me, while the mother was employed in Vancouver Then about the 'middle of November, Harry came to me and said he wanted to take Ralph over to Portland to pur chase clothing. I permitted this and from that time to this I have not seen my grand son. When I found he was not going to re turn his son to me, I began a systematic search for him. About Christmas time came the news of the arrest of my son-in law and then for the first time, were we informed that Harry had a second wife. How long he has been married to Nellie I do not know. After hie arrest we trac ed Mrs. Qibsen number two to Pendleton utter ignorance until last Tuesday when ' we were informed that Ralph wae here in La Grande. ' When the article in today's Journal was referred to, she stoutly denied the story that Gibson relates regarding' the validity of the first marriage. Mrs. Kitteil affim- edthat her daughter had a marriage certificate as evidence of the legality of the nuptials. It is likely that the coming ' trial will ferret out the'mystery of howl when and where Harry Gibson was married to Nallie Gibson, commonly called Mrs Gib son number two. It is very evident that" detectives will run her down and bring her before the court at Portland. It is susposed that the marriage took place last July in Wallowa county. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson are loath to part with Ralph. But they are of course con soled by the fact that he will now be in the hands of his real mother. Prof J r. Reynolds and Miss Dora Knox are taking the examination at Elgin this I week. ALL (ONYALESCERf During the past week three of our cit izens have been quite s.ck but all are now considered out of danger and are conval escing. Dr. M. K. Hull is now doing nice ly. C W Ellsworth of Island City ie now receiving nourishment and each day a perceptible gain in his condition is notice able. Mr. Brasel, who has been in the Portland hospital being treated for a crushed foot, is improving and if this im provement continues, an operation will not be necessary. The condussion was sufficient to shake the business portion of the city and com pletely wrecking Cressaty's restaurant on 2d Street. Tottering as tho in the grip of an earthquake the walls of the building crumbled before the teriffic in rush of air, which followed. Wreckage was hurled thru the window of an adjoining buildings, Rescurers immediately went to work and the injured were sent to the hospital. Thaw was parti cularly anxious as to the state of the health of Mrs Bolton and asked if he could not send a physician at his own ex pense. Under advice the state, had al ready sent Dr. Jeneway to take charge. Tne cibe was procaeding when a note was handed to Mr. Bolton. The juror turned daatlily pale ana leaped to his feet when his fellow jurors forcad him to his seat and eqtended 'their sympathy and assisted him in controlling himself. Upon the announcement of Mrs. Bolton's death the tourt announced the adjournment of the case until Monday and Bolton was hurried to his home.
