Yet, while this is the case, goitres are of many var ieties and their formation is in different cases the result of vastly differing processes. Many people are afflicted with goitre and yet do not suffer greatly from it; but even in such cases' the 1'consciqusnes of the deformity is a quite sufficient annoy ance to make the reduction of the enlarge ment a thing very much to be desired. In this connection H may be said that Os teopathic physicians have been extraor dinarily successful in the treatment "of the trouble, in many Instances accomplishing complete cure in a remarkably short space of time. Of course the length of treatment var ies with the case. The variety of goitre that is most readily cured is that in which the e nlargement is due simply toengorge- mnt of the eland, due to pressure of some kind on the veins whose duty it is to drain it , J. Wishing every one a happy, and most prosperous New Year. .We are yours most truly CURES Of TEN VERY QUICK - These cases are usually cured quickly. simply by finding the causa of interfer ence with the blood supply or, drainage and removing it The interference ie most often found to consist of a slight dis- plasement of one -if the cervical vertebrae. which are those in the uppermost prt of the spine; but displacement of one or more of the upper ribs, of the clavicle, or of parts of the spine lower down are not in frequently found to be either primary or contributory causes.' The correction of these misadjustments, coupled with Jud icious treatment over the gland itself and hygienic measures that may be indicated, in most cases brings about a speedy re duction f the goitre. Other varieties of soft goitre are almost as readily curable, their cause being found in just such misadjustments at those described; but there are of course in stances in which quite extended treat ment is required before any great result are apparent. ' ' In cases of hard, fibrous goitre progress is necessarily much slower, a definite in' crease in fibrous tissu existing which the body forces, even when working to the best advantage, find it difficult to do away with. POSSIBLE DISAPPOINTMENT HERE There is always the possibility in these cases that the results will be disappointing although the records of Osteopathic case reports ehow that the treatment has been gratifyingly successful in many instances. In exopthalmic goitre, which ie accom panied by palpitation of the heart, pro trusion of the eyeballs, and other pro nounced f ymptoms. the ceances of cure vary a great deal, according tn the ssver- ity of the case and the length of time- it has been progressing toward a crisis be fore treatment is begun. Taken in its early stages, the results are very good. although parent submission to treatment for some months is usually necessary The disease i by no means entirely a local one; and in treating it the Osteo path nectissarily has a task of no small proportions. He has to correct not only those misadjustments wnjch are found to be affecting the thyroid gland directly, but hae to rectify by readjustment and patient treatment all of the many vi) conditions in other part of the body that may . be contributory to the disorder Patients suffering from this disease are frequently anemic and are almost always nervous sufferers to a greater or lees de gree. As stated, there is a wide divergence in different cases of goitre; but it may I safely be said that the very best prospect for cure is through Osteopathic treatment alwaye. The Right Way. - 1.
