Rockefeller and hit six associates who control the Standard Oil Company, for operating the company in restraint of trade, wae opened . in the United States Circuit Court here today. Rock feller's co-defendant are Henry M. Rogers. Henry M. Flagter, Charles M. Pratt, Oliver H Payne, William Rockefell er and John D. Arohbold. In addition to these the Federal Government is charging W. A. Harris, treasurer of the National Transit Company, the Crescent Pipe Lin Company and other alleged standard cor porations with the same' offence. The Chesebrough Manufacturing Company and and the Swan and Finch Company will also be charged. Over two hundred wit- n will he examined for the prosecu tion. A special meeting of the stockholders of the North' ern Pacific Railway Company was held here today for the purpose of considering the proposal of the directors to issue $98,- 000,000 additional stock. The present capital stock of the company is $ 1 68, 000,000 and the stockholder authorlxed the issue of the sum named by the direct or which bring the capital of the com pany up to $266,000,000. Of the new issue the stockholder will have the right to subscribe to $93,000,000 at par in proportion to their respective holdings of the present stock The reasons assigned by the directors for making the additional stock issue as explained to the stockhold ere today is the rapid growth of popula tion along the company's line and along development ot business which is daily in creasing. It was stated that the increas ing business was overtaxing the capacity of the line and further extension of the company's mileage was nesessrry.
