At a meeting of the Slave Repression Society in the Albert Hall today resoltions were passed calling on the goverment to take immediate steps to wipe out the barbarous customs existing in the Soudan which were stated to be as much in evidence as a centuryago. ORDINANCE NO. 348 Series 1907 An ordinance prohibiting the throwing of manure and other foul smelling or offensive matter in the Streets or alleys of the City. The City of La Grande Does Ordian as Follows; Section 1 That on and after the 15 th day of January 1907 it shall be un lawful for any person, persons, sumpany or corporation to throw, deposit or place or cause or albw to be thrown, deposit ed in any street or alley within the limits of the City of La Grande, Oregon., any manuredecayed or decaying hay or straw or other stable litter or offal or garbage or any slop or filth or any other foul smelling or offensive matter or substance what ever, or to empty spittoons thereon, or in any gutter along any street or alley in the City. Section - 2 That any person, persons, company or corporation violating any of the provisions of Section one of this or dinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fineof not less than $5 00 nor more thai S25.00, or by imprison ment for not less than two days, nor more than ten days, or by both sur.h fine and imprisonment in the discretion of the court. Section 3- -That this ordinance shall be published in the La Grande Evening Observer for one issue thereof, and shall be in full force and effect in and after the 15th day of January. 1907. Passed by the Council of the City of La Grande. Oregon, on the 2nd day of January 1 907. by six Councilrr.en voting therefor, and no cmncilmen voting against the same.
