While Miss Irene, at the Hotel froley.
was preparing to attend a small gather
ng at the home of Mr. K. Swaney. (a
she supposed,) the guests were gather
ed at her home in the block. Promptly
at 8:50, the time arranged for all to be
present, the lights were turned off, the
door locked, as usual, and all were as
quiet as mice.
Miss Murphey left the hotel at 8:50, ac
companied by her mother, Mis Slattery,
and Miss Leibrecht to at .end the wouia-
be party at Mrs. Swaney- residence.

she was reminded of sheet music which
she was to carry with her, and which was
stored awav in the "vacant rooms m tne
block. Feeling that she was already late
and that to secure the music must neces
sarily cause more delay. Irene rushed up
the tair to the block, unlocked the door

liohts were turned on within.
To say she was surprised I putting it
lightly. Seated around table tatily
arranged for games, sat a score or young
friends. In the dining room a long table
rtictirallv arranged, was filled with
an abundance of delicacies.
As soon a Miss Murphy could collect
her faculties, quite enough to greet
her vouna f rends, all joined in a game of
nrouressive peanut. Here. Miss unve
Crawford and Mr. Frank Bay carried off
first prizes, and Miss M. M. Slattery lon
so'ation. Following this, came Cupid's
Dart. Miss lima Aikine and Mr. Albert
Edwards succeeded in piercing the heart
nearest the center, for which they were
both awarded with pretty prizes. The
versation came and

others, caused no little merriment.
While the guests were partaking of re
freshments in the dining room the phono-
eraph afforded much laughter a they
listened to some of the latest records
After refreshments, both vocal and
;c,r,,mr.icl music were enjoyed until a
late hour, wnen all departed feeling that
thev had spent an evening long to be re
membered as one of the.r most pleasant
social functions.
Mrs. F. Swaney and Mrs. Frank Lilly
assisted the young people in planning their
amusements and refreshments, andceri-
inly did credit as a hostess. Those pres
