THEODORE LORCH iuppoitid r MISS JOSEPHINE DEFFRY AND HIS OWN EXCELLENT COMPANY OF PLAYERS IN THE GHARAGTER OF Sherlock Holmes (The Sip of the Four") AMUSEMEMT TONIGHT Mr. Theodore Lorch has added laurels to his reputation in his production of the great detective character of Sherlork Holmes in "Trie Sign of the Four" which will be seen at the Steward's opera House this evening. The play is under direct ion of Mr. Tom B. Loftus and is in every respect equal to the production as given in the largest theatres of New York and London. The mechanical effects are superb and (the character delineations are of high order. There' it not an un nteresting moment in the development of the plot and a pretty love story rut s thru the intricacies of the detection of crime. 1 he play at it will be presented in Stew rd's opera House has attracted large audiences wherever it hat been produced. Priest, one of the representatives of "The Illusion of Beatrice", Martha Morton's latest dramatic comedy success, in which Miss Maude Fealy is this season starring, paid the Observer a pleasant visit thif morning, and chatted at some length about hit interesting little star. He tells us that both star and play are a huge financial and artistic success, and that John Cort, who is introducing the younges American dramatic star to the play going public, is delighted with the flattering reception accorded Miss Fealy in each city visited. The souvenir photo fiends would cer tainly be delighted to meet Mr. Pr est. on account of the splendid collection of auto graphed photos of Miss Fealy, which he has in his possession. It will be remerr bered that Miss Fealy's phcto was awarded the first prize at the Paris Ex position, in the contest of the world's mcst beautiful women. This, coupled with the fact that Maude Fealy was selected by tv.e late S r Henry Irvirg. from all the available American and European talent, as hit leading lady, p acet this little star in quite the most enviable position of any woman of her age the stare has aver known. H r pnoto, ther ifore. is a most valuable asset to a coilecion of the worlds celt' bnt.es. RELI3I0US DRAMA Faith, that giant stronghold of the Christian belief, is eloquently upheld in Wilson Bare..', intensely dramatic work, "The Sign of the Cross." Tne devotion and heroism of the early Christians under the wanton cruelty and persecution of the Emperor Nero in Rome is presented with such striking realitm in this play, which brot it at its fir-.t produc tion at once to the notice of clergy, church people and students of religion. It has had for the years of its enormous success the voice of the pulpit as its strongest advocate. It has had too, and still has the univer sal admiration of the theatergoing public. j There i no play in which 'the triumph of right over. wrong is so nobly expressed. The story plays upon all the emotions and the conseouence of thrilling incidents keeps the audiences in a state of high strung attention and excitement. The scenes of the Roman court are rich and gorgeous in the extreme and all the costiy scenes, costumes, armor md ap pointments are presented witn absolute fidelity to the requirements o'" history. Tne original London producti;n of "The Sign of the Cross" will be seen at Stew ard's opera house, Tuesday. Nov. 27. The cast contains mny pro nment iglish and American players.
