At tne regu.ar business session many matt ers of special importance to tha citv were discussed and a plan, formulated which will be announced latter. The ladies are very much in earnest and it is not unliicelv that a union in these matters will be formed between the Ly!e Tuesday Musi cal and ihe Neighborhood Club and then the citizens of. La Grande can expect to note some civic sueaestions cominir from the ladies of La Grande. A PACIFIC FIRE 1 WALLA WALLA Tuesday night fire broke out in the Walla Walla roller mill located on the Yellow Hawk, just eatt of the city cem etery, and within half an hour the entire structure was a pile smouldering embers, bent and twisted machinery and smoking rains. The structure, a three-story frame building, was insured at $7000 but the loss is estimated at between $20.000 and $25,000. It was operated by Coyle & Campbell, who manufactured the "Sat isfaction" brand of flour, and when the fire hroxe out contained 1 2.000 bushel wheat, 10.000 sack of barley and 550 barrels of flour, all of which was a total loss. Oregon (Scrtppa News Association) Seattle, Nov. 21 The new Grand Trunk Pacific across the continent thru Canada and the Brittish possessions, when completed, will shorten the distance between Ne w York and Yokohama 1500 miles over the San Francisco route, SCO over the Canadian Pacific route and fully as much over the Hill route-. The new line will pass thru the great wheat grow. ing regions of Manitoba, Assinabia and Alberta for about 1000 miles and will then enter the rich mineral regions of Brittish Columbia. The Pacific terminal will be on the Skeena river where a city called Prince Rupert is being built. The road is being constructed with all possible despatch. He is a big buyer and has been coming to Heppner for the past ten years. The way he has been held up here waiting for cars seems little less than an outrage. A large meeting of the ministers of tha denominations mentioned is being held here to discuss the project The movement has been in progress for five years. The consolidation of the churches into one body, to be known as the United Church, will give the new or ganization a membership of about 1,250,- 000, and make it one of the strongest Protestant church bodies in the world.
