Berry of the Grande Ro.;de Water Co., who came in from camp in the" mountain where he ha been making survey for irrigation ditches and tunnel and where he re ceived a severe injury frorrf land slide on tne side of a mountain a few day ago. Mr. Berry discovered during the course of his surveys! a mountain peak which is several hundred feet higher than Mc Hood, supposed to be .the tallest mountain peak in Oregon and whose alti tude i 11,225 feet. Mr. Berry' investigations were strictly scientific, caused by hi interest in nature and were only incidental to his work for the- irrigation Lompany. He took the elevation from the nearest government attitude corner or station by aneroid but owing to hi accident did not have time to enfy hi measurement which he will do when the now go off in the spring, Hi preliminary survey and measure ment how that this peak of the Eagle range of mountains, which ha been named bagle Chief." i several hundred feet higher than ML Hood, the tallest hill in Oregon and one of the highest mountain on the Pacific dope. This makes a new record for distance upward in Oregon and Baker county will now carry the high banner. . "Eagle Chief lies between Imnaha and and the head of Minam river in a atraigbt line it 45 mile north-east of Baker City. It is snow capped the year round and is s the center of such wild scene of beauty nature never dreamed ofoaintine in Swit zerland, or Italy. Tnis monach of the hill with hi head in the clouds and hi fee; planted in fir covered hills i surrounded with a chain of the most beautiful lakes that ever reflected an Oregon sky. Mr. Berry had with him an exDert photographer who for the first time took photographs of these magnificent scenes from nature. Donbtless he will have them reproduced for the benefit of pleasure seekers and sports men. Fish and game abound in this paradise as vet almost unexplored country.
