The La Grand Evening Obseuvfb is a welcome visitor among La Grand stud ent. The Sophomores, at a recent class meeting, passed a resolution condemning hazing in all iU forms. It is thot that! this stand was taken at the request of the faculty, which has long been trying to put an and to the practice. Dan Kelly, who recently underwent a slight operation, will soon be entirely recovered. The health of student at Eugene is exceptionally good this year. There is no contagious disease and danger from typhoid fever has been eliminated. Altho the city water has bean pronounced pure by the Stat Board of Bealth, the University anthorities make assurrnce doubly sure by boiling all water used for drinking. Training for track work has begun in tha snap of preliminary cross country runs. At assembly Wednesday morning. President Cambell addressed the student body, taking for his theme, arrangement of work and economy of time. The annual trv-out for positions on the Glee Club was held Friday afternoon. There is much talent among new student and several, including some from Eastern Oregon, will undoubtedly mak good. Robert Rountree, in clever impersonator will not b with the club this year. Th man still rmmbr their entertainment at La Grand last year and ar anxious to reach that town again thi season. Th social vnt of th week in college circles was th reception to new and old students last night in th hall of th dormitory. Everybody and his friend was ther. There was no formal program but th persons present spent the entire evening in getting acquainted all around. Th debating societies ar getting ready for th work of th season, by electing officers and soliciting new material from among the Freshman.
