PROMPT DELIVERY PHONE MAIN 46 QEDDEJ BRSJ" north f:r sr s:r MONDAY NIGHT "The Royal Chef," a musical comedy which has been having a successful run in Chicago and New York, is billed for Stew, rd's opera house, Monday, Oct 8. The management of the company has ex pended a small fortune on the scenic effects and costumes and it is said to be one of the most elaborate productions of the season. There is not too much plot to "The Royai Chef," but it gives a chance for a lot of handsome young women to wear stjnning gowns and for the corps of clever comedians to introduce novel specialties. Among the catchy airs which w;ll be sung for the first time in La Grande are "The Tail of the Tailless Frog," which bids fair to be the hit of the season, "Spin Again," "O Rielly." "What Color Eyes Do You Love Best," "Stroll ing," and "Let Me Go Back." A feature of the production is the chorus, which in addition to being a beautiful one, includes all of the "Ordinal Broilers." TUESDAY NIGHT Jane Corcoran is well known through out this territory for her ability as an actress, having visited us upon more than one occasion and giving entire satisfa.tion each time. Her impersonation last sea son as Peg Woofington in Pretty Peggy will live in the memories of all who wit nessed the performance last year. This year she brings to us a more modern play, that found success at the Empire Theatre New York C'ty, where it n tnd ed run for many weeks. Miss Corcoran's manager, Arthur C. Aiston, having the confidence that he will find support from the theetre-going public if he will offer them something out of the ordinary, be lieves that the return will well repay him for the outlay, and consequently they have gotten together a star company and pro duction of unusual merit. This should alone guarantee a big house. Miss Cor coran's chief support will be the well known leading man, James M. Brophy. Steward's opera house, Tuesday, Oct. 9. Charles Anderson, a well known mining man of Montana, su e'ded at Gardner, in that state, by going - into an abandoned prospect hole and taking poison. Everett Fisher, aged 15. of Eugene, was killed in the gravel pit near that place. An engine tender ran over him, crushing both legs and his side. He died immediately after his legs had been am putated. While out hunting a few miles south of Portland, Willie Hines accidentally shot himself in the leg with a 2 calibre rifle. It is probable that he will lose the limb, as the knee ard the tibia were shattered. As a result of the strike of 2000 miners employed at the Crow Nest Pass coal company and the Fernie.
