(Weekly Republican) The Eastern Oregon Experiment Sta tion, located at Union, is an institution that our people are decidedly interested in, and it behoove us to guard well our interests in this line. It is expected that the Executive Board of this institution, consisting of Senator Walter Pierce, of La Orande; J. S, Weatherford.of Albany; Crpt Apperson. of Park Place, and John D. Daly, of Portland, w 11 soon meet at Union, and that at that meeting several things will be don that ars of vital inter est to those of our people who are inter ested in keeping the Experiment Station at Union. It is within the original intent of the Experiment Station projectors to make that institution one of co-operation between those in charge of the station and the farmer and stock-growers of the state, and to make thjs work effective there mustbe an appropriation sufficient to carry on the work in a manner commensurate with the importance of the topic that naturally come up for solution in such a place. Soma idea of the work of this station may be gleaned from a glimpse over a partial list of the grasses, flowers, forage plants and countless other items that are propagated and grown on the Experiment grounds. In looking over the farm one sees among the samples grown this season the thousand- hnrlH Val Prmi4a trwn been varieties of sugar beets, various kinds of alfalfa, including the Turkestan, or dry-land alfalfa, fifty-five varieties of potatoes, seventy-five varieties of grasses, red clover, vetch, Egyptian clover, whit clover. Reed Canary grass, Teirell grass. Italian rye, Japanese Barnyard millett, Kentuckey blue grass, Brome grass, Sanfoin, Nevada blue grass, German alfalfa, white vetch, western wheat grass. ninety-eight varieties of grain, and count less other things that cannot be mention ed here. A to the location of the Institution, there is probably not another place in the Stat where the conditions are more favorable for carrying on these experi ments than right here in the Grande Ronde Valley. These things being true, it behooves our people to guard well our interest in this line, lest during a period of inactivity or neglect, steps be taken to change the location of the Experiment Station. It is understood that at least two other parts of the btate are laying plan to capture the big farm, and it is up to Union to keep the institution right where it is. "here are others after it. We Osteopaths are accused by medi cal friends of claiming too much for Os teopathy. Possibly we do, hut having re peatedly proved its merits, our judgment on the subject should be of more value than that of those who have not don so. lo all such we can but reply in the words of Newton, who, when ridiculed concern ing his theory of gravitation, said: "Sir, nave investigated these things; you have not. Though all the common diseases, acute and chronic, infectious and noninfectious, nave been treated Osteopathic lly, with the most encouraging results it does not claim to be a cureall. If it possessed but a small part of what is actually proved of it, it would yet rank a the greatest contribution to medical science. For medicine, especially chronic ailments, offers nothing more than temporary relief, while Osteopathy, dir ecting it effor at the primary cause of disease, dare to offer, not only relief, but cure.
