Their concert last night will warrant a larger crowd should they again visit this city. ROYAL CHEF Although one of the youngest in years. La Belle Blanch is one of the strongest members in the cast which will present "The Royal Chef" at the Steward opera house on Monday, Oct. 8. This little gir is only sixteen years old, but already has won for herself a nitch high up in the temple of dramatic art. This little girl has been on the stage for a number of years, and under the tutelage of her motner ha made a study oi ieauinu act ors and actresses on the American stage. Her imitations of George M. Cohan, Ethel Levy. James T. Powers, Eddie Foy and Marie Dressier are without equal any where. In Chicago La Belle Blanch has not only the plaudits of an enthusiastic public, but of commending critics. In the role of Kitty, the Irish maid in "The Roy al Chef" she has ample opportunity to display her talent as well as a mimic. FRIDAY EVENING Pete Peterson is coming. He was born in Illinois on March 20th. 1831 moved from there to Missouri and from there to La Grande. Union County. Ore gon in 1862 where he lived from that time until his desth. He was a lawyer of ability and a brilliant advocate, prover bially true to his clientage combmii.g w.th his ability a high sense cf lega ethics He appreciated the importance and dig nity of the legal profession and was ever, jealous of the good rame of its member ship. He was especially kind and helpfu to the young men in the profession both in words and in deeds impressing all upon the fact that to be a good lawyer was to be a good citizen. He was ever a high minded, public spirited citizen, contributing all in his power to any and all public enterprises tending to the development of the country, its mat erial prosperity, and the elevation of its citizenship. He was domestic in his habits, true to his friends and never for got a favor. He- was a faithful husband, a nood father, a true friend, an able lawyer and a public spirited good citi zen. In his death the Bar of Union county has lost not only its oldest and most espected. but one of its truest and most distinguished members, his family a faith ful husband, and good father, and the comunity, s valuable citizen. That these minutes of the life and death of M. Baker be spread upon the journal of the circuit court of the state of Oregon for Union county, that a copy be furnished to the widow and relatives of deceased, and that out of respect, and as a tribute to the memory of deceased, that the court do now stand adjourned until tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock.
