CULTIVATION Of PEACH TREES "Peach Growing inTexas" is the subject of bulletin 80, recently issued by the Texas agricultural experiment station, which should be in tne hands of eve ry orchardist in the state. It is compiled by E. J. Kile and treats the subject from every possible phase, from the prepara tion of the land to destroying pests. Write to College Station, Tex. for a copy. Thorough cultivation is undoubtedly the most important factor in the success ful growing of peaches in Texas. The San Francisco board of health makes a formal report that 452 persons lost their lives as the result of the earth quake disaster April 18. Of the victims, 9.26 were killed by falling walls, 177 perished by fire, 7 were shot and 2 died of ptomaine poisoning due to eating "emergency" canned goods of poor quality. The figures givon are for deaths proved to have occured. This does not cover the actual loss of life, probably, as there were doubtless a considerable number of persons who perished in the fires of whom nothing remained to prove their death. Never mind, we are growing. A business man in passing the Obser ver office this morning remarked that such a day must be consoling to a few over in Wallowa county which by the appearance of the clouds over bnyond the Minam suggested a "wet'1 country. There is too much American capital in vested in Cuba to permit of many months ofdevastation in the shape of a revolution. It is evident that there will be no more ten year wars in our sister republic. There is every reason to believe that the county fair will be a great deal more of a success than many have been held to expect. Many farmers have signified their intention of making exhibits. This rain may interfere somewhat with the grain harvest, but it will certainly cause a great increase in the sugar beet tonnage. If this weather keeps up a few days longer the high school boys will be doing regular work in the foot ball team. The new system of spell, ng is referred to in Kansas as the dehorned system. Each subscriber to the Daily and Weekly edition of the Observer will re ceive a copy of the Observer's Industrial Edition, and it is hoped that after reading the edition carefully that our readers will think of some friend in the east and send the copy to him.
