Th remon strance has a larger list of signers than thi petition, but after considering the question nearly all day yesterday, the court decided to tako the matter up again at ti e next session which will be the first of September. E. C. Berry of North E'gm precinct is the applicant for the license. DIED SYNHORST At 6 am. Wednesday Aug 16, 1906. Ray Joshua Synhorst, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Syn horst, aged 1 months. 3 days. Funeral at 2 pm. Friday, from the residence of F. Synhorst. John Rich of Union, was a business vis itor in the city this week. M. Waller left yesterday for Cove on a business trip. Atty R. J. Slater, of Pendleton, i in the city today visiting hi brothers, J. L. Slater and attending to business. Geo. Geckler, who received a shock from a live wire the other day was in the city today to have his hand dressed. W. G. Dwely a prominent attorney of Baker City is in the city on a professional visit. ' Rev. O. H. King and family left this morning for a camping trip either on Beaver or Fry creek. E. C. Berry, the new business man in Minam was in the city with business befoi the county court. J. M. Selders, county commissioner re turned this morning after sitting in the court yesterday. Attorney E. C. Cochran of Union is transacting business at the court house today. Mrs. J. R. Forest returned Sunday even!: irtrr. a trip in the . Mr. Forest visited in Chicago and points in Iowa, where her mother resides. Miss Maud Morton returned this morn ing from Union where he was a member of a camping party that campeJ on Cath erine for about ten days. Geo. Mack, cashier of the First! National bank at Joseph was in the city this morning. While here the banker called on many of his friends. L. R. Watts, a druggist of La Grande, was visiting with friends here yesterday. Pendleton E. 0. Mr. Watts is with a camping party at Hidaway Leonard Kid well, of Alice!, OreEor visiting in this city with his brother Kidwell of the Walla Walia Meat Walla Walla Union. ' C. D. Goodnough was the very painful accident yiuay working in his shop. His hand is bad lacerated and he carries it in a sling .to day. Mr. and Mrs. Jay VanBuren returned last night from Denver and other points. Mr. VanBuren says they had a good time and would like to have made their visit longer. On the way home they stopped at points in Colorado, Utah and Idaho. Attorney R. H. Lloyd Elgin returned to his home this morning after several days spent in this city in the interest of the remonstrance to an application for a liquor license in Minam, He was accompanied by his ward, Agnes Milne Honorable George Peterson, ha ser ved his term in the city jail on bread and water and this ' morning carefull y brushed all the dust from his clothes and shock the sand from his shoe soles, and continued his journey. Before leav ing he stated that the bread made in this city was of the highest grade and the city water of the best. Mike Tierney of Derango, Colorado, ar rived in the city last evening to visit his daughter Mrs. Frank Pike. It is twenty one years ago since Mr. Tierney has seen his family, and his arrival was much her alded by the Pike family. He has another daughter, Mrs. J. h". Hannon, in Huntington, and two sons in Alaska. The visitor is favorably impressed with his short acquaintance with La Grande. Miss DacasVan Schoonhoven of Cove is in th city this week working on the Portland Journal contest. If she is sucessful in getting the largest number of subscriptions in this district, which in clude Union and Umatilla countie. she will be given a scholarship in on of the best schools in Portland.
