H. Hughes. Wednesday evening. August 8. 1906, when Mis? Em ma Hughe3 was united in marriage to Mr. Samuel Merrill Henderson. After the ceremony hearty congratula tions and best wishes were extended by the guests present, about forty in number. A splendid wedding supper was served in the dining room. A large number of beautiful presents, consisting of silverware, chinaware and cut g'ass pieces were received, a number coming from friends from a distance. Miss Hughes has lived in Weiser for about three years, coming here from La Grande. Oregon. During this time she has become very popular, numbering her friends by her acquaintances. She has. during most of this time, been organist at the Methodist church, and had endeared herself to every member of the choir and congregation. STRIKE IN TRISCO vSorlpps Kens Association) San Francisco, August 13. Two hun dred composition roof workers struck this morning for an increase from $4 to $5 per day. Two companies have complied with the demands but the rest have ab solutely refused. Wrr. Erickson visited at Meaihem over Sunday. Chas. Carlson returned to his home in Kamela Saturday evening after a brief visit in this city. M. Borkgren, the Cove planing mill man, was over today having some work done at the La Grande Iron Works. Passenger train No. 5 last night was turned last night at La Grande and run east as No. 2. Fred Scott is in the city from Durkee Mrt Scott is now located near Durkee and is here a few days on business. Ferguson returned home from Ogden, yesterday,, where he has been transacting business for the Engineers Mrs. D.C. Crawford and little daughter left this morning for Meacham where they will spend a week with Mr. Crawford Miss Bessie Burke will spend part of her two-weeks' vacation in Spokane, and will depart for that city the last of this week. A. A. Roberts spnt Sunday in Pendle ton and was one of passengers on train number two thai was blockaded by .the land slide at North fork. . Miss Justin Clark left last Saturday evening for Hilgard to visit relatives, and intended to return last evening. Her plans were shattered however as the train failed to show up' Mrt. C. H. Conkey and family, Mrs. Dr. N. Molitor and Miss Lula Gulling are members of a camping party of ten which left this morning by team for Teal Springs. A!. Good, who started his thrasher Sat urday noon, ran about fifteen minutes when a hoe down fork went through the cylinder, breaking a casting. A telephone message was sent to Portland for an ex tra by express. Miss Lindia Bod me r of Baker City who it enroute to Portland and Seaside on her vacation, spent today in La Grande as the guest of her brother, H. A. Bodmer, and her sisters-in-law. Mrs. Grace Barrie. At four o'clock this afternoon the pass engers who have been held near North fork since last evening arrived ir. La Grande on the train w.ich went there this morning as number one made the transfers at the scene of the accident. Misses Floy Masses and Elizabeth Ferguson spent Sunday at the Lattor. Masses camp near Kamela. They experinced all the discomforts of a mountain rain and electric stom. Their return was materially delayed by the land slide. H. M. Hildram, who was a dispatcher in the La Grande train dispatchers' office about one year ago. was in the city today shaking hands with his many friends. Mr. Hildram is now located in umaha and is on nis way to visit nis mower wno is in Seattle. An officer of the insane asylum came in last night on No. 5 with an insane China man. As the train was annulled here, the Chinaman was given over to the care of the police department here until this morning. The Chinaman was brought from Canyon City. Marshal Rayburn arrested another va grant last night. Recorder Snook gave him seven and one half days on the street. Rayburn says he is going to keep these fellows out of town if it is possible. All who stop here must either work the street or live on bread and water in the city bastile. Mayor Stoddard and Councilmen Bartlett, Williamson and Gardinier. and City Engineer Pickler, returned Saturday evening from Beaver creek, where they had been to ascertain the amount of water available for city purposes and the feasibility of conducting it to the city.
