The scheme of decoration was with sweet peas, each room being elaborately and tastily decorated with this fragrant blossom. The guests played five hundred for which the first prize, a hand-painted cup and saucer, was won by Mrs. Bohn enkamp. The second prize, a beautiful plate, was captured by Mrs. Aikme. Adolph Newlin and family left this morning for the head of Grande Ronde river and will spend a rustic week. Our local nimrods are looking up their ammunition stock. Tha closed seancn grouse opens on the 15th. RobL Walsh, who has been visiting T. W. Walsh and family at Spokane, has roturned home. Mrs. H. C. Grady and daughter Ellen left last evening for Portland where they will spend a week visiting friends. C. J. Mrs. Emma Harding received word this morning that her son-in-law, Mr. Ben Scott who has been very sick, at his home in Idaho is rapidly recovering. Dan McWaters was down from his Hilgard home today shaking hands with his many friends. Dan is always a wet come caller at the.Observer office. The Epworth League of Isla-d City will fcive a lawn social Saturday evening. August 4, at the home of F. E. Kiddle. Ice cream and cake will be served. All are cordially invited. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Thronson and children and Mrs. Stitzinger came down this morning from the Aurealia mines on the Grande Ronde River. They will remain until after circus day. Mrs. Grace Barrie. who accompanied her sister, Mrs. Ingles to Portland, has returned home. Mrs. Barrie states that Mrs. Ingles is recovering rapidly and ex pects to be able to return home in the course of a couple of weeks. F. W. Hamball, proprietor of the I. X. L. store is in receipt of a descriptive pros pectus of the Knickerbocker Hotel a structure which is now being built in New York. When this monster hotel is com pleted nne thousand uestscan be accom odated. A. Hambel, a nephew of F. W. is one of tha managers. It speaks well for the financial institu tions of our city that the last two bond issues have been floated by home institu tions.
